Played the Legends Walk course around 8 p.m. under the lights in January. 9 hole, par 27 course.
Initial reaction : Really challenging Par 3 setup, especially from the back tees. Small & mostly narrow greens guarded by bunkers. Tee boxes were flat. Easy walk. Offers free push cart. Did notice that sand traps excluded rakes on at least 1 hole. Might have been more but worth noting. 1st time on the course and playing at night.
Pros: It’s golf. It’s golf at night. Not something you see everyday and can do. Fairways were well kept. Great layout. Variety of clubs hit off the tee from PW to 3 iron. Yardages ranging from 115-220. Downhill, uphill. Over bunker. Helping and hurting winds.
Cons: Greens were some of the slowest I have ever seen. Might just be the time of year I played them & the type of grass but I’m not a turf expert. Lighting on certain holes was to be desired. Specifically- around the tee boxes as lights are only found on the back tees. The other 2 sets of tees do not have lights and would be very difficult to play at night. While there were really small signs to direct you to the next tee, I struggled to locate the hole markers by the tee boxes at night that shows the hole layout & yardage. The price of the round was $53. In my opinion, steep for what it is. Might have been worth it if you could play it until they turned the lights off at 11 P.M. But, you are paying for the experience and exclusivity of night golf since there isn’t a competitor in the area…and it’s a resort.
Closing thoughts: A really fun experience if you have never done it. I have always wanted to play at night. Would have a hard time shelling out $53 again to play 9 holes but it’s cheaper during the day obviously. Has potential to be really incredible. Would any of these issues keep me from coming back aside...
Read moreHad a terrible experience and will not ever be back. We had family visiting from out of town and wanted to do night golf together. We drove an hour to Orange Lake, only to discover that both the Google address and the booking confirmation listed the wrong location. The incorrect directions caused us to be late.
When we finally found the right place, we walked into the pro shop just 5 minutes past our tee time, apologetic and explaining the situation. Instead of empathy, we were met with one of the rudest employee interactions we’ve ever experienced. The employee, Michelle, showed no concern and simply said that because we were late, we could not golf. When we pointed out the directions issue, her response was “that’s not my problem.”
What made the situation even worse was her excuse. She claimed she had already given our tee time to the group behind us, but we could clearly see that group was already out on the course and had moved on to the second hole. Meaning, the time slot was still open and we easily could have teed off without interfering with anyone. When we brought this up, she slammed her fist on the desk and yelled at us instead of trying to resolve the situation.
We are all avid golfers and fully understand golf etiquette, but when the resort itself provides incorrect directions, the least we expected was basic customer service and understanding. Instead, Michelle’s behavior ruined the experience for our family and left us with no desire to ever return. We will not be recommending Orange Lake to...
Read moreAfter being out at this course multiple times with a non-golfer coming out to walk the course along with me(usually my wife/and or friends with their spouses). I have just been told when trying to make a tee time that non-golfers are not allowed on the course after 6 o’clock. I asked has this been recently introduced as a new rule and I was told this has always been a rule. Which in the 10+ times I have golfed here I have ALWAYS A non-golfer come along with me. When I asked for the reason behind, not allowing non-golfers I was told that it is because the non-golfers sometimes like to play. Maybe have the Ranger that is constantly patrolling the course, actually pay attention and look out for stuff like that, no need to ruin the one night golf course in the area for everybody else. Very disappointed with this new “always has been” rule. I know, not just me but many others that will not be coming back to this course for that reason. please feel free to reach back out to me and explain why I have been allowed to do this for a couple years now and I am now getting punished for other people...
