I'll start from the beginning. At check-in, they give you keys to your room for access to the pools, but they won't tell you what your room number is until 4. That's fine, except the staff member told me I would be called as soon as my room was ready. There was no call. A robot called me exactly at 4 and gave me a room number. How many hours was my room ready for? I don't like being lied to. Just tell me it's 4. Next, I found out you have to pay for half of the amenities. Why? I'm an owner. This is my home location. They offer passes for everything to be accessed for 1 rate. I only found this out from another dad in the pool. Where do you buy these passes? All the way back at check-in. Why wasn't I told then? 100% of the cleaning staff didn't speak any English to help with simple things like directions. On my way to go purchase my 5 day pass, a shuttle driver was speeding through the parking lot and just barely missed hitting the back of my vehicle with my children inside. My car was completely backed out of the space. She had to drive on the incoming traffic side to pass me. The only thing that saved me was that my rental car had automatic emergency breaking. Next up, the staff that operates the paid amenities. Maybe they don't get paid enough to care, but it was certainly evident that they did not want to be helpful. The staff at the large blow-up slide had my 6 and 5 year old take off their sandals to go on the ride. That's fine, expect it was on fake turff and they are little kids, no shade. They burnt the botom of their feet so bad instantly they panicked and just screamed not knowing what to do. Why isn't there shade there? Let's talk about the gym. It was fine if you're into machines. But, the AC was down so it was a sauna in there. No worries, im adaptable, I prop open the 2 doors to make a nice wind tunnel. Everyone working out thanked me. Some security guard closed the doors back up and said we can't do that. I said the ac was down. He said he knew there was a ticket to fix it in. OK? Then get a fan!!! How many people pay thousands of dollars to be there and you can't put fans in a gym with no ac temporary?
What a terrible experience. I've stayed at other resorts with the time share, and I experienced none of this. I actually felt like I was at a resort where the staff genuinely wanted to provide the best experience. Not at Orange Lake. I was really upset, especially because this is my home resort, and I was so looking forward to giving my kids the yearly vacation there that I experienced as a kid at other resorts with my extended family.
I don't think I will return to Orange Lake after this experience. I gave 2 stars because the room was fine. Nothing special. Ac didn't work well there either. The room was ice cold and the living room was hot. The air was not distributed evenly and the thermostat is in the...
Read moreLove this resort. We stayed at two different villages. Absolutely love river island. Better quality rooms. Cleaner, updated, great view. Stayed at north village & i will say that room was not up to standard. My family is highly allergic to dogs & someone definitely stayed there the night before with one. Whoever cleaned didnt do a good job. They did send someone out to clean, they offered to switch rooms but we already unpacked by the time we were sneezing. A lot more things were not up to par coming from river island room. The only thing I would say is I wish they had an area just for dogs especially with people who have severe allergies. My last 2 nights were a bust. Congested, itchy & sneezing. Even after they cleaned - they needed to clean the filter where the AC is. I will rant & rave about river island all day. We went to East Village for the country concert. Really nice, not a lot of people came. They did not have kid friendly meals for thay event. The seating was a bit weird. The talent was amazing tho. Any time we went around the resort the staff was always great, expect one in west village. Ignored us & blamed her fellow team member. Went to the pool in west village as well. Mostly for adults and little little kids. Food was good. They already have 18% gratitude applied to the check.
Bring your own towels. They provide towels but if you do not bring them back you will get charged per towel. I witnessed an elderly women steal someone else's towel, other guests saw this & the woman took it back thanks to other guests pointing...
Read moreI’m not sure how employees can walk in and think this is an acceptable way to let people stay. The bottom drawer is totally broken, and the oven even caused the fire alarm to go off the first time we used it and it was only preheating. The washer in the lock-off (B unit) leaves clothes sopping wet so we had to all take turns in the main unit doing laundry. The microwave filter red light is on as well. We seem to be missing a lot of mugs too, as we only had one larger mug and about ten of the basically shot-glass sized mugs, so we were getting up and down refilling coffee instead of just relaxing. The shower magnet doesn’t work in the B-unit either so you have to be careful otherwise the door will just open while showering. Also, at one point, an employee just walked into our unit while all of us were relaxing in the living room. Claimed he meant to go into the unit across the way. He left our unit and then decided to knock but this time on the correct door across the hall. Slightly horrifying considering there was no warning and reminded us that any employee can just come into our unit with all of our personal belongings.
This place has gone very downhill since it was first built. We’ve come just about everywhere and stayed here since it’s...
