D-Max Theatre — Local services in Gainesville

One of the worst theaters I've been to. Their website when booking the movie should have been my first clue, but it looks like it was created in 2003 and I know the theater isn't even that old. When we got the theater, there was no one working the outside ticket window and no inside ticket stand, so we had to wait in line behind two giant groups getting their concessions to check in and get our tickets. The theater itself was clean, but looked run down. There were ceiling tiles that were very close to falling out of the ceiling, so definitely wouldn't want to sit under those areas. Before the movie started, they had the lamest pre-show I've seen that kept blowing our ear drums every time a local ad came on and then going super quiet during the movie ad parts. The seats were some of the most uncomfortable I've ever sat in in a theater. They reclined, but aren't actual recliners and they reclined too far back to be comfortable and you couldn't sit up straight like a normal chair. So basically, your feet are flat on the floor, but you are forced to lean so far back, it hurts your hips and back. My husband's seat was broken, so it leaned back even further. We had a terrible experiance. Our first hint that things were going to go bad was the appearace of the theatre. The sign was ramshackled with several panels missing and broken. Maybe from the sprintime storms of '24. I'm not sure why but it had an off appearance. But we bought our tickets online. So we went in. Greated by a sales counter crew that acted as if they didn't care. Had never cared. And wasn't going to start for a puny afternoon crowd.

So, we made it the theatre. The previews were still blasting away. The movie started, and It had only a partial soundtrack. No dialog. Just background noises.

So we complained. The movie keep on playing in a nearly silent mode for about 10 minutes. So we were getting up to complain again. when someone showed up to say they were working on the problem. The movie stopped and started a few times for short intervals. Still no primary soundtrack. The movie stopped. We sat in the dark.
