I have been going back and forth on writing this for a few days now because I understand the weight and significance of words on others. My intention in writing this is not at all to cause damage but to simply express my experience and the hurt that I have carried with me for days now.
I had seen the signs for American Honey coming soon for months and was so excited that I told friends and family about it. I finally managed to come into the store on Monday, to see how everything turned out. I was greeted by the owner, who was coming from checking in on her neighboring stores, which I thought was so sweet and endearing, and upon walking into the store for the first time I was so pleasantly surprised. It's a beautiful space, and you can tell there is a lot of care put into the upkeep of the store.
I enjoyed looking through things, making small comments to the owner and other customers, but ultimately kept to myself and as I looked. Things changed completely when a customer, who was clearly familiar with the owner from multiple trips to the store, began speaking with the owner. I am not naive enough to believe that everyone will have the same views and opinions as I do, but I do believe in human decency. The owner and customer began a loud, and lengthy conversation regarding the atrocious events and war crimes occurring in the world right now. They stated things like the victims were "not even animals, they are worse than animals," that there needed to be more presence of military to "control them," and even went so far as to mockingly call out the Arabic word for God, Allah, to further cement the views being discussed. There is only one group that refers to God by the Arabic name.
This is the true problem. To stand in a store you own, to allow a frequent customer (you stated multiple times that she was at the opening, she had received a gift bag, that you knew she had coupons), to preach Islamophobic rhetoric, and then to agree, all while a customer of that faith stands not 10 feet from you, fully turned towards the conversation and staring in shock, is atrocious. It is not okay. It is demeaning. It is not what is American, as the name of your store refers. I am so deeply disappointed and hurt. I don't wish you failure, but I will not shy away from sharing my experience with others. Your actions and words have consequences, and they have the power to wound deeply....

Read moreI personally donât shop here, but my wife always takes me there. Great prices and inventory. We have been there about half a dozen times. And have always had a great experience. My wife shopping and myself waiting in the chairs. Stephanie is polite and respectful, and professional. This next part is response to a post a week ago from âââââ I Hve seen her Interactions with many customers all the times we have been there. I have once never heard any disparaging remarks made from her in anyoneâs presence. People need to stop slandering others and interfering with others. Also, people need to know the whole facts of the situation before passing comments and being keyboard cowboys. MY WIFE WILL CONTINUE TO SHOP HERE AND I WILL SPREAD THE WORD TO SHOP HERE. What is funny about this, well not funny, itâs a political review and the review talks nothing about the store itself. Just politics. Itâs the only review of its kind on the site. As all the others are positive feedback of store and owner. Hmmm. Has...
