I brought my wedding band and engagement ring to the Smithville Jeweler to have it rhodium plated, cleaned and inspected for any loose diamonds and prongs. My ring had been repaired in the past by a different jeweler who has since retired and that is what lead me to Smithville Jeweler. I left my rings with one of the workers and was told the jeweler would be in contact with me and that it should be done in 10 days.
2 days later a women from the store called me back to ask what I wanted done with the rings. I found this interesting as I had the receipt and the receipt had what I wanted done written down on it. I explained to her what I wanted and she relayed that to a man in the background (Iâm assuming the jeweler). The jeweler asked some questions which I couldnât hear, the women then repeated them to me and she relayed my answers back to the jeweler. This went on 3 or 4 times before I just said can I speak to that person you keep talking too and cut out this middleman nonsense.
She put him on the phone and he explained to me that it costs $65 per ring to rhodium plate it and that it would need to be cleaned before he did that. If he cleans it diamonds could pop out and if that happened (which he led me to believe would happen) it would cost $75 to replace each diamond. He said the prongs were bent and overall the ring looked like there had been a lot of wear and tear on it. I went back and forth with him, asking him a number of questions and he finally said, âI would suggest just putting your diamond into a new setting, I donât see the point in throwing good money on bad and truthfully I donât even want to put this into my machineâ. He said the setting wasnât that good and that the prior jeweler who had fixed it didnât do a good job on it.
I picked my rings up that day and found a different jeweler. This new jeweler I went to, said the setting and repair job was fine, he cleaned my rings, inspected my rings, fixed some loose prongs, soldered both my rings together and rhodium plated both of them for $60.00 and it was done in 3 hours.
I have no clue why I got the run around from the Smithville Jeweler. If he didnât want to work on my ring, I think he should have just said so instead of making up excuse...
Read moreI have an antique ring dating back to early 1900s. It is platinum with filigree. It's a very delicate piece. it was in need of repair as it was bent. I took it to Smithville Jeweler and they wanted to charge me $200 to weld my ring back into place and then another $10 for a new ring guard. I asked them what if you break my ring, and they said well that's it it's broken. At first they wanted me to take my diamond off of my band and mount it on a new band. And then they kept pushing for me to size it probably because that's extra money. I don't want to size my ring even though it's a little big on me. I had originally purchased the ring in Eatontown at Earth Treasures. I am so happy I didn't go through with Smithville Jeweler. I took the long ride up to Eatontown and they looked at my ring and I bent it back it's a place right then and there. They said it also needed some solder to fill a couple of cracks, no big deal. All of that for $50 including a new ring guard. If I had followed through with Smithville Jeweler they were about to heat up my ring and weld it in which case they probably would have broken it because it was so delicate and I would have no engagement ring now. They were rude and cocky with me when I questioned what happens if you break my ring. I will never do...
Read moreI have been to Smithville Jewlers before for same day ring sizing service. The Jeweler was not in ,but the associate gave him a call and he came Wright over. We were done in about 30 mins!! Today, the day after valentines, I went in with my new ring for same day sizing. He informed me that being that diamonds are on the sides and going two sizes down, that their was a chance that the diamonds could come loose or pop out. I know how great of job he did before and trusted in experience and honesty. It was two hours as they said it would be,and my ring looks like it was never sized!! Amazing customer service and he takes pride in his work!!...
