We would definitely use Bear Lake rentals again. The boats being right on the water was so nice. Loved not having to tow or launch the boat ourselves.
The pontoon boat we rented was very nice and held 13 of us comfortably. It had plenty of power for towing tubes and wakeboards. We had a ton of fun. Heads-up that gas is pricey. So plan on that when you budget. The under seat storage was great for shoes and hats etc.
Our only complaint was that as soon as we left and the first person tried to get out into the water and back onto the boat we realized the ladder was broken(it wasn't visible in the pre-launch check because the ladder was folded up. So make sure to check that!) We had been out 10 minutes. We called right away to let them know and they said that we must have broken it by having the ladder down while we were moving. It had clearly been run into by something (most likely the tractor or trailer used to move them) as it had a puncture hole through one of the ladder rungs and the welds were broken.
Initially they said that we would have to pay for it. They offered us another boat but we didn't want to waste our paid time getting a new boat and moving all of our stuff and people over to it. When we went in to get gas they took the broken ladder and saw clearly that it had been punctured by something. They told us that they wouldn't charge us for the ladder. While it didn't prevent us from having a good day or having fun, it did make getting in and out of the boat much harder. The adults especially had a hard time hauling ourselves up out of the water and back onto the boat. I think an acknowledgement from the company of their error (and blaming it on us) or an offer of a discount for all the trouble would have been nice.
Even with all that, we still had a good experience and would use this...
Read moreBear Lake is beautiful, the rental company not so much. The pontoons boats are in terrible shape, bolts coming loose on the helm & ladder, and duck tape holding down the engine cowling and dents all over the front pontoons. Also, the check engine light was on for the entire day..My brother in law had reserved a jet ski, but the online reservation system screwed it up and turned an 8hr reservation into a 3hr..gets better. We went through 2 different seadoos in 30 minutes, finally giving up on them and turned them in one after another due to mechanical problems. One ski could only reach 30mph with just one rider, the next ski continued to cut out and would just bog down… terrible waste of time. What’s worse, the guy running the seadoo rental told my brother in law he would have to own the repair cost if we didn’t bring the ski in when we did. They gave us a faulty machine in the first place!
The biggest problem however are the teenage employees running the show..rude and incompetent. They not only promote themselves by leaving bogus 5-star reviews for a $5 kickback, but they run the machines hard while not being rented. In addition, the employees are too busing sun bathing on the dock to help receive incoming boaters. We rented a tube with our boat, had to bring it back after 20 min to get aired up.
This place has to get their act together! We paid over $800 for a 6hr day on a pontoon. I could have made 2 months of payments on my own for that price. Lousy lousy experience leaving my family angry.
Hire better employees who care, purchase new vessels or mechanics, and focus on the customer experience. This was no way to treat a family on a vacation who is from Utah and would have been back as a...
Read moreWe drove by Bear Lake on the way from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone. BEAUTIFUL view from the mountain top as we descended to the lake. Incredible turquoise colored lake, so unique and huge, and beautiful! Anyway on the way back, I decided I wanted to see the lake up close, so I rented a pontoon from BLR and it was such a great way to spend a couple hours. You normally have to reserve ahead of time to get a boat, but we were lucky, it was a Thursday morning and a boat was available. I called in and a very sweet college gal took my call and lined me up with a boat. She did the whole thing, drove up to the gate in the ATV when I called and said I didn't know how to get into the park. A couple of young guys launched the boat which was sitting on the sand, with us already in the boat. The gal gave me instructions on how to drive the boat and things to watch for. Then we spent a couple hours on this huge and beautiful lake. We brought sandwiches from the local Subway and had lunch on the boat. When we came back, the gal was there to help us dock the boat. AWESOME! It was a great way to wrap up our vacation trip! Thanks...
