This is such a beautiful spot in Gwinnett County! Well kept up by GC and their volunteers, there is a lot of history to explore! There are little museums like the school house and the barn. There is also a blacksmith who has some beautiful pieces on display! In the middle of the site is a stage that was just dedicated to Betty Warbington, a big volunteer that helps run the place. There is a public bathroom to the side, which is very helpful when you're staying for a while! The Elisha Winn House is a museum itself, with staged bedroom settings with historical information about the family in different rooms. It is all very informative and pretty cool to step back in time and learn about Gwinnett's historical family! This site is a perfect location for weddings and private events! Parking is a little tricky as we had to go to the lot across the street. I'm not sure if this is how it normally is but for today, we had to cross the street, which is a pretty busy road. The police were there to direct traffic, but if this is how it typically is, then please be careful! All in all, this is a gorgeous gem in Gwinneyy County and if you have the chance to walk around, I highly...
Read moreMy family of 4 visited the annual Elisha Winn Fair. My girls, ages 9 and 13, had a wonderful time, far exceeding our expectations. It featured live demonstrations by kind and informative volunteers including a blacksmith, a musketeer, a weaver, and a gentleman manning the old well. There were interactive elements in the garden and outside the house. My youngest got to try her hand at threshing beans and making lace. We all toured the lovingly restored house, which featured a lot of artifacts and the history of its African-American caretakers. We made free sachets filled with lavender. There was live music, dancing, and lots of fun venders featuring local honey and soaps and knitted/crocheted items, and jewelry just to name a few. There were public bathrooms and plenty of parking. And did I mention admission to the fair was free?!?! We definitely bought a bunch of tickets for the historical society’s quilt raffle, though. Because when else do you get to buy tickets for a quilt raffle?...
Read moreThe festival itself was nice but the restroom situation was absolutely deplorable I think anytime a public function is held somebody should be responsible for maintaining the restrooms they were backed up I have health issues and I along with other visitors had to walk in about an inch of water and feces to get to the bathroom stall which was inexcusable a Shop-Vac or something for the safety of visitors should have been there also considering that was the only restroom they had for the public it was just unacceptable that it was...
