Recently want to to get back into magic after not playing since college. I found that HoneyBee Games was in the area and well reviewed so I decided to go and check it out. Unfortunately, it was a really unpleasant experience.
Given that I havent played magic in almost 15 years I had a lot of questions, some of which included asking about ordering collectors editions. As soon as I started asking about pre-ordering things the guy who was running the counter was cold and treated me like I was some scalper.
I understand that scalping may be an issue in magic now but you should really give people the benefit of the doubt. Just because someone doesnt know anything about magic in the last 15 years doesnt mean they are a scalper.
I ended up going to a store in Mequon where they were much kinder and patient. As a result, I ordered $2,000 of product and accessories there instead, despite it being farther away.
I ended up giving them 2 stars because I grew up in a game store and respect that they seem to treat their regulars well, otherwise it would have been 1 star.
edit 1: I was not told that you dont do pre-orders. I was, in fact, told that pre-orders were limited because your distributor doesnt give you as much quantity as you would like... I was also told that pre-orders go to people playing in pre-release events before anyone else...
I respect that policy. However, it was crystal clear you thought I was a scalper because after I asked about pre-ordering collectors edition if possible how you talked to me drastically changed.
Being a dad and seeing people drop their kids off there I'll probably still give the store another shot..... but that whole encounter... it felt bad.
edit 2: edit 1 was a response to the the business owners posted response, they have since deleted their response so it doesn't make as much sense but i'm going to keep the edit 1 for...
Read moreWas very excited to go to my first pre-release at this store with my partner. The website did not mention a sign up anywhere on the calendar so we showed up about 15 minutes early.
Upon arrival we were told that there is a wait list and we needed to sign up. When asking where to sign up it was shared this was on discord. No where in the event did it mention a sign up or a discord and I asked if this was in the website. They stated no since they donât know technology very well. Seems like adding a discord name in an event on your calendar wouldnât be too much of a technology lift.
We asked if there was a chance to get in from the wait list and they said maybe so we waited around for until the event starts. They never took our name or anything. We end up not getting off the waitlist which happens but was frustrating nothing on the website mentioned a sign up or discord.
The reason I am giving a one star review is what happened after. We decided we wanted to see if we could buy a play booster on our way out. We asked one employee who told us she did not know and to ask the other employee. We waiting in line and got to the register and asked the other employee who told us extremely rudely âwe already told you no and you are playing mom and dad by trying to get around usâ and walked off. Not only were we not told this, another employee explicitly told us to ask him. The other employee gave us a sorry look and didnât mention she told us to ask him.
There is a lot of local game stores in the area. I would recommend going to one that treats their customers nicely instead like an...
Read moreVery clean and professional and spacious and well-organized. Staff makes for great conversation and is willing to play your favorite games with you if they have the time. They are extremely knowledgeable and polite and accommodating and they have a wide selection of merchandise that I don't see many other places. Also they offer coffee soda water Etc in-house and next door there is a Chinese and pizza restaurant so it's a perfect place to meet your friends for some casual or tournament gaming. The one thing I appreciate the most is the comfortable chairs. They definatelly spent alittle more to make customers feel welcome and comfortable. I have a bad back and this makes a...
