i began my first project with diego at obsidian paint and stitch a few months ago and left extremely dissatisfied.
i found his small business through a simple google search and was optimistic in giving him my business due to their few but good reviews. diego did a great job understanding my initial vision and assured me that he could execute what i was envisioning.
he agreed to take on my project of 12 total pieces with the understanding that i would return with 24 or more pieces (his MOQ) when he successfully completed my first order. i also agreed to pick up (and pay for) any material necessary to complete my project.
it took months to get my pieces back. i texted him several times asking for an eta to which he would respond saying they’ll be done “next week” this went on for quite a while until i finally received 11 out of my 12 sweaters.
the majority of the 11 he delivered were sub par quality to say the least. each sweater had some sort of defect. either the screen print wasn’t pressed hard enough, there was paint splats on several sweaters, and each sweater was covered in dog hair (i do not own a dog). he said he had forgotten to screen print the 12th sweater and that he would drop it off later in the week.
the 12th sweater was prefect. no mistakes, no defects. it was everything he had initially promised me when we first spoke. this made me want to give him a second chance.
i met up with him a few days later and explained to him my frustrations with the entire order and his lack of urgency. he basically said my project took so long because it wasn’t as big (and i assume profitable) as his other projects.
i told him if he can guarantee the quality of screen print that he procured on the last sweater he gave me then i would bring him 36 more sweaters. he said he could guarantee it so we did it.
many weeks later i got my 36 sweaters back and only about 16 sweaters were good enough to sell (none were perfect like the 12th sweater) and the rest had the same defects as my initial project.
he did agree to not charge me for the sweaters he ruined which i did appreciate. however, he also “lost” the 12th sweater i let him use as reference. he sent me a venmo to cover it.
all in all diego is a nice guy who i’m sure can execute most simple jobs. i understand i was asking for a specific type of screen print (puff print) but seeing that he successfully did it once (and had assured me he was familiar with that type of screen printing) i assumed he could replicate it on every sweater. it was clear he lacked attention to detail and there was no type of quality control on my projects. his workspace is not the cleanest which would explain how he misplaced things so easily and my sweaters were covered in dog hair.
if you are looking for attention to detail, consistency in a project, and an overall feeling of working with a legitimate business, it's probably best to...
Read moreFrom Rosal Ortega Flamenco. I was ordering T-shirts and Tote Bags for my Adult Flamenco Dance Studio members from an on-line vendor when the owner of Obsidian Print & Stitch's mom joined my Flamenco classes. She mentioned I should give Obsidian Print & Stitch in Goleta, CA a try. The T-shirts are better quality. The totes are bigger and the customer service I was given is great! Thank...
