Nice shop, although the taxidermy of the endangered species is heartbreaking and overwhelming if you're not prepared for the shock. Makes me tend to avoid this very close and well kept local grocery/eatery. I'd give a better rating if they would remove the display of the endangered animals. The other taxidermy is not objectionable and is well done.
The dry-goods and grocery portion of the shop is rather welcoming, as are the staff. They offered lots of dried soups, noodles, snacks, a bakery and dairy section, and a small refrigerated goods area as well. I've not eaten in the restaurant portion, but it is clean and attractive.
All in all, my experience was a positive one once I got over the initial shock of the animals on display. It may take a bit of nerve for me to go back and shop as a local customer. You may feel differently. In general, I suggest a visit to form your own opinion. I support local businesses over big box...
Read moreIf you are going there for the buffet, don't waste your time. Food was so so at best, empty bins,3 kinds of meat all chicken and that was either thighs, buffalo wings ( I think it was) or an empty bin of chicken something. Instant mashed potatoes topped off my disappointment list followed closely behind 3 choices of dessert, pumpkin (2 slices) raspberry, or peanut butter ( well at least that's what the empty pie container said was in it) The gentleman did come up to our table while I was finishing my pie and apologized about the lack of chicken and said should be more in about 20 minutes! What? They had to go catch them? We had been there over a half hour as it was, I wasn't waiting any longer! TWO THUMBS DOWN in the buffet, I wont be back. As for the store, I wish I would of looked around a little more, appears to be interesting. Unfortunately I just...
Read moreThis is a great store that offers some things that are difficult to find. The Amish popcorn salt is a must have for our family and there is a large variety of sugar free candies up near the registers. Delicious cheeses and baked goods are available. What really makes this an amazing place to visit is the taxidermy. While yes, it is sad to see these magnificent creatures knowing what happened to them, it's my understanding that the collection was donated and it would be far far worse if they were to have wound up in the trash. Under the circumstances, I'm glad that they are now available for the public to see up close and appreciate the splendor and diversity of the creatures of the Earth. Edit: On my most recent trip, the majority of the taxidermy is gone and there was only a small selection of...
