I donât normally leave a bad review for anyone but this experience? Mustnât go unnoticed... I havenât slept in over 24 hours... I returned home from work this morning around 1 AM and I let my dog outside in the backyard.. Iâve been living in this home for a little over a year now and Iâve never had a circumstance for my dog has never returned... this morning Iâve made up ad and I posted it on the next-door app I called around to a few friends and they gave me the number to this location... I spoke to a gentleman, I gave him my name and I told him the situation I was really trying to hold back from crying but I explain to him I said that I lost my dog I donât really know what to do I was given this number to contact this department... no Iâm sure Iâve worked in enough cost centers and local 911 dispatch to understand what a scoft, sounds like... this manâs exact words after he composed himself, was "OK sir there is a website that you go to.. youâre gonna wanna go to petharbor.com..." Considering the fact that I was already devastated and in a state of panic I simply disregarded his lack of sensitivity and empathy... But Iâm quite sure in these circumstances is very difficult to understand A member of the LGBTQU's feelings. I may not have birthed this child but this is indeed my child.... and that feeling of losing your child you probably do or say anything to get some help so perhaps in the near future some employees at this location to receive some sensitivity training.... I really present this man never loses anything close to a child in his life...
Read moreWe found a dog walking the streets at 2 a.m. we kept him until morning and brought him to the animal shelter to keep him safe from traffic. We completed the intake form and waited for 45 minutes, but no one ever came out to assist us. All communication was done via text, and it was incredibly frustrating.
First, we were told to go home and wait 24 hours. I explained that this is not my dogâI was simply trying to prevent an accident and do the right thing. Then they changed their instructions and told us to wait three hours.
At one point, they even said that if we left the dog behind, they would send the police to our home using our license plateâagain, all of this through text. No one answered the phone, and no staff member came out to speak with us in person.
The security guard told us to just leave the dog on the street where we found him. If thatâs the approach, then what is the point of having an animal shelter at all?
Thankfully, a local veterinarian was able to scan the dog, but no microchip was found and no owner has come forward.
Why do we only have one shelter for the entire county? Why arenât there emergency options or after-hours support? This was a terrible experience that left us feeling helpless when we were only trying to help a lost dog.
We need a better systemâone that doesnât punish people for trying to do the right thing, and one that prioritizes the safety and...
Read moreOwners are not allowed to be present during euthanasia procedures at GCASâŠ. which I find perplexing. I worked here as a veterinary technician in the early 2000âs and I distinctly recall that owner requested euthanasias did NOT have these types of restrictions. We allowed owners to be with their pets and comfort them during their final moments.
Additionally, I wanted to point out that the City of High Pointâs Animal Control team refuses to transport âownedâ animals to the Guilford County Animal Shelter for owner surrenders and humane euthanasias. The decomposing bodies of abandoned dogs that have been hit by cars, litter both sides of highway business 85 between the MLK drive exit and JamestownâŠ. And now I know why. High Point residents are clearly disposing of their unwanted pets on the side of the highway because they donât want to drive to Greensboro and spend hours being processed at the animal shelter, just to surrender a pet.
Animal Control doesnât seem to be responsible for providing any transportation services or convenient surrender solutions that could potentially save animals or protect the community. Weâve personally paid our property taxes in High Point since â08. Another individual proposed a very interesting question in their own GCAS review: âWhere exactly are all of our tax...
