My story starts in 2018 with a search to complete a modest budget home theater room utilizing a mix of new and existing equipment. I wanted to collaborate with an AV specialist to evaluate the pros and cons of various options to achieve the best compromises I needed to make at the time. Well, I was a little frustrated with the lackluster “specialists” I met during my initial contacts with AV companies. Then I met Garrett with CinemaQuest. From the first meeting, I could clearly see his ability to listen, understand and communicate with me just as I desired. We ended up building the “bones” of the theater room then filling it out with quality AV components. The room was very enjoyable, but knowing it was the foundation and the first step, we built in plans for upgrades in the future. Over the next couple of years, Garrett worked on other rooms and expanded the use of Control 4 in my home. We continued informal discussions over this time period regarding the final theater project goal. Finally, 2021 and the time has come where I am able to move to the final project. Having had preliminary discussions with Garrett since 2018 and doing plenty of research, and ultimately trusting Garrett’s recommendations we moved forward with his equipment and design. When Garrett gives you his evaluation of various equipment, performance versus pricing, etc, you can believe in his word. So what? You say? I can go out and get high end AV equipment and achieve the same result. Not so fast, what you get with Garrett is someone with a tremendous amount of expertise. This expertise, combined with the passion for his craft, integrity and dedication to 100% customer satisfaction is what sets Garrett and CinemaQuest apart from the others. Garrett exhibits the patience to put a customer at ease, even when the customer may be a bit “technologically challenged”. He never made me feel like I was bothering him with even the smallest of questions. Garrett has an eye for the details and it shows in everything he does, from identifying proper speaker and power needs, speaker and lighting locations, running and securing wires to all phases of the buildout, and especially his trim work. “Close enough” or “good enough” are never options for Garrett.

This theater is in use nearly every evening throughout at the year. Knowing this, it was important that not only was the AV up to the task, but the room provide and excellent viewing and listening conditions that lets us escape reality. After all, isn’t that the point of movies and a theater?? Without CinemaQuest and Garrett, I’m confident I would not have the absolutely fantastic home theater I have today.

After a lot of time researching, my project started with an unfinished space and a general idea of equipment and layout. As I went to take the next step of officially launching the project, it seemed potential contractors either only understood a part of the process, or they struggled to make recommendations based on real experience with the pros/cons of different equipment, layouts and options. They also seemed to struggle defining how they would approach acoustics and calibration.

From the first meeting with Garrett, through the multi-month build out and final set-up, cannot be more pleased with the end-result. There was a strong focus on workmanship, with attention to detail from materials, to 100% screws, to future-proofing, to considering how to make sure the form, fit, and function all worked for the space. Plenty of opportunities for me to ask questions and provide feedback throughout. Options were presented, not forced, with an honest assessment on where the budget was best spent to get the most value and performance.
