I've been living here since April. While it's certainly not the worst place I have lived, it's not worth the rent. Granted, we (my wife and I) relocated to South Carolina to be closer to family without having the time to truly investigate different apartments so I claim responsibility on my end for that... Doesn't excuse many of the issues we have encountered while living here.
I DO want to say first and foremost that the maintenance team has been very reliable. Whether we call or send an email, they are there within 24 hours for minor issues and an hour or two for more serious things. They never leave a mess and get the job done quickly and effectively. And the neighbors have all been very nice, aside from a few instances of people getting loud about sports but it wasn't during quiet hours so no big deal.
The first apartment we were shown REEKED of cigarette smoke despite being smoke-free units... And the corners of the walls/ceiling all had the telltale yellow staining of smoking. We were able to move to another apartment in the complex the next day that was a little more dated in terms of appliances but had no smell.
We were a little frustrated when our leasing agent/property manager came into the unit to investigate and claimed she didn't smell anything... It was strong enough to give my wife a headache after being in there for just a couple hours.
I have seen quite a few other reviews talking about the pest problem. I have definitely seen roaches in unit, and there are squirrels that move in the walls and ceiling that we hear in the early morning and evening hours. We have pets who definitely keep the bug population in-unit low but they are still quite apparent.
There is only one trash disposal site in the complex. The complex is huge, around 600 apartments and the compactor is located at the front corner. With that many residents, there are times when the trash is literally overflowing at the compactor. There is a large dumpster on the other side of the complex, but we have received emails and paper notifications that it is ONLY for disposal of furniture and appliances.
There's no exhaust for the dryer so it just pumps the warm & humid air back into the apartment, which makes the A/C fight with it during the summer months (and essentially doubled our electric bill from when we moved in). The stove is also right next to the living room, which is carpeted and makes makes cooking a bit messy if you don't use a splatter screen.
There is definitely the black mold that many other reviews have spoken to. We have found it in the A/C vents and my wife found it in the aerator of the kitchen faucet. Very concerning, especially with pets that are more sensitive to the effects of it. I'm wondering if the inadequate ventilation from the dryer is partly to blame?
Overall it just really isn't worth what they charge for rent based on the condition and size of the unit. The 2-star rating is really tied to how well the maintenance staff works and the neighbors all being pleasant. Otherwise it would be a 1-star. I'll update this review if...
Read moreLike other reviewers have said, if I could leave zero stars I absolutely would. I am only leaving a review in hopes that it prevents someone else from living here. We have had problems since day 1. The day we moved in, our entire apartment smelled like smoke. We had neighbors who smoked indoors and it leached into our unit. We ended up spending hundreds of dollars on air purifiers to make our space livable because management wouldn’t do anything about it. They claimed they couldn’t smell it. There were cigarette butts in piles outside our door from the neighbors.
Our downstairs neighbors had a neglected dog that would bark loudly at all hours. Management told us that the dog had a right to live there and that we would just have to live with it. It took threatening legal action for the dog to be removed. But we dealt with the dog for 7 months before anything was done.
The roaches here are horrendous just like others have said. It is a constant and disgusting problem.
Finally, this week, our ceiling caved in in our guest bedroom because of poor building design and lack of proper upkeep. Our space is unlivable, but it took us paying and calling a lawyer for them to break our lease so we could move out. On the worst day we’ve had living here, management was nasty, rude, and hostile. The management doesn’t care about anything except getting your money. They do not care about people at all.
I highly recommend that you spend a little extra money and live elsewhere. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. And to Huntington downs, don’t leave a comment saying how sorry you are for our experience and don’t say we can email with concerns. That’s a bunch of nonsense and you know it. You don’t care about your...
Read moreFrom the other recent reviews, it seems to make sense now why this place is so terrible. The short version on my end is a lack of roaches and receiving mail are pretty basic expectations for me, and I've never looked into breaking a lease until this.
I moved across the country with little notice which meant I didn't take the time to truly look into apartments, if I had this place would not have passed a basic glance. When I moved in, after my apartment had been cleaned twice by them, it was to find a clogged bathroom sink - really not a big deal and easily fixed. Other than the fact that it was clogged with literal roaches. They did fix this quickly once I told them I would be moving out if the bugs didn't.
Then my mail stopped showing up. No this was not a postal service forwarding issue. I was using Amazon which means manually putting in my address as well as getting confirmation when it showed up most times. I still have no idea where the art that I ordered to the front office is, but I will need to get a P.O. box if I want to get further mail evidently.
The location is convenient though, other than the road construction.
If there is a good way to post a video of the roach in the sink, please...
