I wonder how some of these people think and online only bank protects itself when it doesn't get to check ID see you in person view other forms IDs the answer is it make sure the money is there and available before it gives you access to it is the best way it has to protect itself. I still use my discover checking and savings account as a secondary checking and savings so that way I still have a bank I can go into and talk to somebody and other stuff if needed but key there is being in person. I still don't trust it enough to move my direct deposit over because of issues like needing last minute funds or a weird situation change that would require me access to my money right away versus having to wait for it. Because I have anticipated these things my experience with discover checking and savings account has been fantastic and I've been paid more interests over 3 months than I have from all of my other banks and credit unions combined over the lifetime of those accounts. I love discover bank but come on people if you're depositing all of your money into a bank that has no physical locations and the only point of access to your money is an ATM you can't do things at the last minute and expect fantastic result every single time. And now discover uses zelles so I can quickly get my money back from discover in to my other bank account even quicker. I don't understand the people that deposit or withdraw all of their money at the same time and expected to be available the next day and when it takes several business days and then they get upset because they have no money, well you are the one who decided not to leave yourself any funds and blamed the bank for not transferring fast enough and then probably cancel the transaction thinking somehow that will make it faster when in reality it will finish the first transaction if in the middle of it then start another. or the people that blame discover for there being a cut off on wire times that's not discovers cut off on wire times that's a federal cut off on wire transfers past that point will process next business day nothing discover can do about that. It appears a lot of the low rated reviews came from people not practicing the smartest banking habits and because people don't like to be wrong they blame the bank. Card not widely accepted in Asia? Yeah maybe you should have researched it before opening and moving your money because that sort of thing is solved by a simple Google search. Outside of electronic transfers or any deposit into the account besides a direct deposit taking too long is the only complaint. If this transaction ever gets down to same or next business day then I will have nothing to complain about. And really a mobile check deposit if made before their business day ends takes 2 business days to get the full deposit which isn't that bad so if I deposit on Monday during business hours I will have full deposit Wednesday so the only issue there is Saturday not counting as a business day when deposit is initiated to close to the weekend. But again because of Discover being mostly online I anticipated not always having easy access to the money every time I need it RIGHT NOW and with that anticipation I have had only experiences that exceeded my expectations. Be smarter most of you. Don't start traveling without checking if the only access to your money is working and gee maybe get some cash for travel? ...
Read moreDiscover put me in an awful situation today. I was traveling over 2.5 hours away from my home when I realized my Discover Debit Card was not working. When I called Discover around 8 am, they informed me that my card was deactivated, although it did not expire until 2021, because they sent me a new debit card. Further review showed that the new card had been returned to Discover and I was never notified. Customer Service initially said that I had been notified of the pending new card but further review showed that I was NEVER notified of the new card or that my current card would be deactivated. I was left 2.5 hours away from home with $20 cash and no access to my account. The Supervisor offered to wire my money to my account at another bank in order to have access to my money the same day. She agreed to waive the $30 wire fee and assisted me with initiating the wire which I was ENSURED would be delivered to my other account by the end of the business day. I spoke with two other customer service members to verify the wire transaction and was told by both members that the wire was being initiated and would be delivered same day. I also opted to close my account with this transaction due to the lack of customer service and inconvinence of not having access to my own money! Around 4 pm, I received a phone call from the wire department who informed me that they did not complete the wire because I had a $1 pending charge from 5 days ago. They requested that I process a new request and they REFUSED to process the new wire same day because it was already after their deadline. I was expected to wait another 24 hours for access to my own money. I called customer service again to ensure there was no other option to access my account and was denied any alternative solution or even an apology. As a result of this situation, I had to spend my only $20 cash on gas to get home and spend the entire day waiting for money that wasn't even getting transferred to me instead of being able to travel home early in the day. The expenses and inconveniences for DISCOVER's multiple mistakes include: 320 miles of travel, lack of availability of funds to purchase food, and 5 hours worth of time...
Read moreI signed up for the cash-back checking because who doesn't want cash back? Also, I had had only positive experiences with Discover credit this far. I switched my direct deposit to this Bank, but of course it takes a few pay periods to kick in. The first of the month rolls around and I stupidly decide to write my rent check from my Discover account thinking that I could just easily deposit my paycheck. I go to deposit my check and getting message that most of the funds will be held for a week and a half. No thanks. So I deposited my check into my other checking account figuring that I could just easily transfer the money over to cover the checks. Well, I had no luck with that either! I couldn't register the account with PayPal. Couldn't register the card with Google pay. I called discover about this, and was told that the companies were trying to make withdrawals which were rejected by the bank because there was no money in the account. I guess PayPal was trying to authorize a dollar as some companies do to verify the account, which they also refund. I also tried Zelle , but they weren't registered with zelle either. I tried cash app also, thinking that I could just wire the money to a friend and have them cash app it back to me. Guess what? Couldn't register the card with cash app either! I called them to see what they would suggest, unfortunately they weren't able to offer me any suggestions. At the end of the day, I wound up depositing a personal check and I was excited to see that the check with post in a few days. However, I was told that the check will be held a week and a half. My rent check wound up being returned. Get this, I received a letter a week later stating that a prolonged hold will be placed on the check because of "doubts of collectability." Well, the account will be closed because I doubt this is an account that can meet my banking needs. What an absolute headache! Needless to say, I got no cash back rewards from using this account, only late fees from not paying my...
