Please read this entire review because it relates to three experiences I have had with Thompson and Thompson Service Group.
This recent visit was the third visit, and it relates to the second visit described below. The crew that installed my mother's HVAC the day before noticed an electrical line that been cut by a cutting tool. The installer immediately notified me about this. At first my 88-year-old mother, who owns the house, could not explain or recall anything about it. That night, she recalled that there was a lot of smoke coming into the house from the attic eleven years ago. The fire department came, went into the attic and used an ax to cut the cable to secure power to the air handler. The fireman did not open the breaker to secure power to the live cable. So, for eleven years, this live cable was there. Apparently, the HVAC contractor who replaced the entire HVAC, noticed that the existing power supply was cut and ran a new power cable to the air handler. That contractor did not notify my mother about and apparently did not test the cable to determine if it was live and dangerous. However, Thompson and Thimpson was not satisfied with the setup, and they sent one of their electrical crews to remove the cut cable and run new cable(s) to ensure that the power supply to both the air handler in the attic and the condenser outside of the house were properly wired for electrical power. The crew worked non-stop and corrected the problem in a timely and very professional manner. They were very courteous and explained exactly what was required and what the did.
This was the second time I have dealt with Thompson and Thompson Service Group. In 2022, they conducted a very complicated diagnosis of an HVAC in a house that I was renting at the time. My house was not cooling properly. Their technician checked nearly everything and could not pin down the problem. Finally he opened the air handler and discovered another company had replaced the evaporator coil with one from a different model that used a different refrigerant (R-410A), which made the evaporator was way too small to handle R-22 Freon refrigerant.
On this resent visit, the blower motor had failed in my mother's house. Because the HVAC was more than eleven years old, the technician recommended my mother have one of Trane's better HVACs installed. He recommended that we have a three-ton unit installed rather than a 3.5 ton unit like the one currently installed. He said the Trane system will run longer but much more efficiently. By running longer more moist air would pass over the evaporator coil and therefore, more moisture would be removed from the air, which will lower the home's humidity. That would solve the problem my mother had with the old HVAC. Not enough air was passing over the evaporator coil, which allowed the home's humidity to remain uncomfortably high. This caused her to keep the temperature lower than necessary. What she now has is a system that will better control the humidity, make her feel better, and all of this at a potential savings of up to 40% on her electric bill.
The technicians who installed the HVAC were very efficient, obviously quite experience, and totally professional and personable. They were able to answer my many questions about how the sofisticated HVAC would operate, and they helped me program the thermostat to my smartphone.
Perhaps the most important thing the technicians did is that they discovered that an important power cable had been cut by someone with a cutting tool. This made it impossible for the system heat pump to be activated. The company manager advised me that he would send an electrician out the next morning to not only replace the cable for free, but also to try to determine why anyone would cut an electrified power cable. Essentially, this presented a fire hazard ever since the cable was cut. My 88-year-old mother is pleased with what she has purchased and confident she paid a fair price. What more could one ask for. Five stars and two...
Read moreUpdate September 27, 2023: We had scheduled an inspection for winter of our 3 HVAC systems. Jaden Dixon and his teammate came and did a thorough testing of the systems, identified an issue and presented options for correcting. As usual the Thompson and Thompson team is incredibly professional and customer service focused. Another win in my book for them.
Update April 10, 2023: Our garbage disposal was leaking and T&T had come out to reseal it. Unfortunately the seal didn't take and we had them return and found that the flange in the disposal was not seating properly. We had a new disposal installed which was done professionally, The technician showed us the issue and how the new disposal was installed and tested to ensure it was working properly. Highly recommend Thompson and Thompson. Rob from Thompson and Thompson installed a Halo whole-house water filtration system. The process from estimate, follow up and installation was very smooth and most importantly customer centric. Rob explained the system capabilities in a clear manner and walked us through the installation process. I would highly recommend Thompson and Thompson
UPDATE: November 16, 2022: After installation of our HALO system we decided to also replace our water heaters which had been dispensing a sulfur smell since we moved into the home 2 years ago. We had been turning the heat up on the water heater to temporarily eliminate the smell. Our only option was water heater replacement--we had AO Smith but decided to go with Rob Pagel's recommendation of Bradford White. Rob and his partner Lance completed the installation of 2 water heaters within 2.5 hours, took care to protect our home (our water heaters are in the attic). Rob explained the system and installation process to us and provided a very competitive price option. As with our Halo 5 installation we were very pleased with the customer centric approach Rob took. Again would highly recommend Thompson and Thompson for your water heater and...
Read more14Oct 2025(1 star Review) -Called for my master bathroom to be fixed less than 60 days ago. Went and bought two toilets at Lowe’s the ones they recommended to me to get. I was talked into a year membership $300 so the fee that day would be taken care of plus additional add ons for HVAC, electrical and plumbing, seemed like a good thing. The technician talked me into going ahead and replacing my guest bathroom toilet too, as it was same age as my master bathroom even though it did not have any on going issue at the time and they gave us a deal for it. Technician did not caulk around the toilets as he said you would not be able to see leaks and the toilet is tight enough so don’t need it.Less than 60 days later calling them back for a loose toilet in the guest bathroom. Technician said he didn’t take pictures of the area the first time he was here but from what he remembers it was tight. Didn’t do anything with the toilet but take a photo and then said it will be $600 dollars more to fix issue per his boss.
Another plumber advised that Caulk around the toilet can help secure it to the floor the technician should have done this and took pictures.
Edit same day 14 Oct 2025 (3 star review) : plumber manager has reached out and is helping the guest bathroom toilet/ under warranty. After a frustrating morning I’m thankful for the help from the company due to a complicated situation.
Edit: 16 October,2025 (5 star review) - plumber Danny and manager Allen came over and looked at the toilet and fixed this issue under warranty. They were both really professional and I felt they genuinely cared for the customer (me) and the company they work for (Thompson and Thompson). They showed me the issues and took pictures and explained everything they were doing while doing it. Gave me a 30 day warranty on labor/ repair if any issues arise. That was huge in my opinion. Overall I appreciated them both for taking time out of their busy schedules to get this taken care of in a...
