I cannot say enough good things about Nanci and The Healing Zone. I have a complicated spine injury with resulting nerve damage and nerve pain, and Nanci and her staff have been nothing short of incredible. They've listened to my concerns and needs and addressed them with empathy, professionalism, and effective massage techniques. The first few sessions I had at The Healing Zone were also shortly after the unexpected death of my partner. Nanci and her staff were sensitive to my grieving while also recovering from my spinal injury. Truly, the massages I've gotten from Nanci and others at The Healing Zone have greatly improved my quality of life. A session typically goes like this: Nanci starts off by me how I'm feeling, what parts of my body I'd like to focus on and what my biggest areas of concern are. After I communicate my concerns and needs, she responds with a possible plan forward. She leaves so I can get on the table. (I also at times have had to ask for assistance due to medical necessity - and Nanci and her staff have been respectful, courteous, and done everything to prioritize my sense of safety, privacy, and dignity.) Once I'm on the table and she returns to the room if I have not needed help, the massage begins. She explains what she is doing while she is doing it - if I am in a conversational mood or have not already become so relaxed I am in a deep sleep. If I have questions about anything, she answers them. If I have any complaints, she addresses them. If I've come in for my massage particularly stressed or don't feel like talking, Nanci and her staff also respond to these needs attentively and sensitively. Nanci also regularly attends conferences about massage, and teaches courses. As a client, it's important to me that the massage therapist whose table I'm on is passionate about continuing education, educating others, and contributing to a community in their field. Nanci clearly has a great passion for being the best massage therapist she can be, and she has an equal passion for working towards the best health, comfort, and relaxation for her clients. In addition to being in mourning and recovering from a complicated and debilitating injury which has left me with permanent problems, I am also a lifelong musician with old, stubborn injuries which persist and affect my overall health. Nanci has addressed these concerns as well. In one particular issue I was having with my shoulder, between Nanci's massages and pairing this treatment with acupuncture with another provider, I saw significant improvement in my shoulder problem. It has been nearly eradicated, something I haven't been able to achieve from any practitioner for over 15 years. I can play violin again now without shoulder pain! I went to my first massage at The Healing Zone on Monday 10/07/19 and it was a great experience! Conveniently located about a mile east of the Calvin Coolidge Bridge, it's just 10 minutes from downtown Northampton or UMass. One can park right in back on their nicely paved driveway. The place is very clean. The staff is welcoming, professional, and highly skilled. I had just a 30 minute massage, but I left feeling fully relaxed and ready to flow into the rest of my day. I met Nanci when a friend with cancer needed massage; afterwards he said it was the best he had felt in a long time. It was a one of the few bright spots in his cancer journey. I started seeing Nanci myself and have found her to be a gifted, intuitive body worker and I not only enjoy her personally and find her massages amazing, when I leave the table the effects of the massage linger for days, which I have never experienced elsewhere.
