This review is only addressing CUSTOMER SERVICE. Nothing else. I do not shop at Gift and Thrift regularly, as it is not close to where I live. So when I have to be in Harrisonburg, I try to stop in. This past week I found myself at Gift and Thrift on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday my daughter and I were there. I can safely say that on every occasion (past and most recent), ALL staff seems unhappy, rude, never friendly, never smiles, never greets you, and MOST IMPORTANTLY NEVER SAYS THANK YOU! I have grown accustomed to this poor customer service, but continue to shop there to support the mission it represents and for the most part, thrift store prices. On Friday night, I was telling my daughter about my usual recent visit. So on Saturday, I took my grandson to the car while she checked out. When she got to the car, she replicated her experience. She said the lady who checked her out was rude (all she said was "next"), rang up her purchase, and never said "Thank You" like always. Because of the behavior of the staff, while my daughter was in the dressing room, I asked the lady there if the staff was paid or volunteers. I thought if perhaps volunteers, that may explain the reason for the lack of good customer service. But surprisingly, she said they were paid, and that they did have volunteers, but they mostly worked in the "back" with the donations. While I am not sure what the answer would be for this unfortunate situation, I do think it needs attention. In reading through previous reviews (not all), I saw other comments were made in this regard. I hate to say this, but you get better customer service at a McDonald's drive-thru and 200% better at Chick-fil-A, and these employees do not interact with you until the very end of your transaction. I hope in some way this will help to make...
Read moreI used to enjoy visiting this store but after the experience I had recently I will not ever shop here again.
I was double charged for two items (coincidentally the most expensive things I purchased) and upon pointing this out to an employee they made it seem as if refunding me for their mistake was a huge ordeal.
I overheard the elderly door person ask the middle aged overweight cashier loudly if there was a mistake or "something else was going on". The cashier then told the elderly woman that it was at her discretion if I got my money back or not. I can't help but feel as if this was blatant discrimination based on the fact that I visited the store with my partner who is trans.
If you enjoy discrimination and being treated poorly then this is the place for you, but if you enjoy being treated like a human being I would venture elsewhere!
I will definitely not spend another dollar here and will caution others against...
Read moreThis generous thrift shop is one of my absolute favorite places to shop, with sensible organization, hard-to-beat prices, and a selection of products so wide you can find almost anything you need! Organization and quality control have changed a lot over time, but it's never been bad and is usually quite good, just take your time checking out clothes, as I don't find the clothing organization to be all that good and sometimes the odd hole or stain makes it's way onto the shelves. Pros: -Great prices -Pretty good organization -Sells almost everything: electronics, books, games, apple butter, up cycles, and more -Friendly and helpful staff -Large and uncrowded area -Good system for handling Covid Cons: -Shopping for clothes can be awkward and crowded, and as a trans person, I often find this part of the store very uncomfortable -Majority of the music is religious -This place is popular, so the best deals usually get picked...
