Edit: RICHARD is the worst employee I have ever encountered in my life. I am officially done with this place. Just when I didn't think it could get worse it somehow did. This place makes Wal-Mart look like a luxury store and the DMV look like a fun time. I am doing a home project and unfortunately, Sutherland's goes where Home Depot and Lowe's aren't interested. They know you are stuck and have to go there. I try to order all online, but with doing a home project sometimes I HAVE to go local when I need something urgently. I have probably spent $2000 at Sutherland's in the past month and they still treat me and their customers like scum. "Friends and family" yeah right. They don't even want you there...more like their mortal enemy. I have never felt so hated by a store.
If you need help finding something, TOUGH LUCK. There have been a few times I have been so desperate to find something and couldn't find a person that I actually called the store while I was in the store, and even then they just put me on hold indefinitely. The employees are rude, condescending, and literally have no knowledge of hardware. And be careful with your stuff. A couple weeks ago while parked in the lumber section, I came outside and my windshield was totally cracked. I called the store and they said most of their cameras didn't work and they couldn't help and hung up on me.
But that's not even the worst. On my last visit I asked an employee named RICHARD (60s, balding, grey hair) to help me with something. He looked at me with literal disgust, grunted and walked away. I tried one more time and he did the same thing. I also saw him treat a couple and their kids like garbage, looking at the children like they were disgusting vermin. He also looked like a manager and I really hope he's not, but if he is this explains a LOT. He is the most rude employee I have ever encountered. And Sutherland's doesn't care AT ALL. How long has this review been here and has Sutherland's commented? No...they don't care. They go where Lowe's and Home Depot don't want to build. This is the most DEPRESSING place I have ever shopped at. The negativity and bad attitude feels soul-sucking and I am done. I am now just going to drive the extra 25 minutes to Belton. I would like to note, to be fair, that I have met ONE nice employee there over the past couple of years that I have seen one time. He was about 17 and really tried to help me. That's it.
And I am not going to mention a description or name, but there was one employee that I was positive was high on drugs. When I asked where the restrooms were they stared at me blankly and mumbled something and kind of tripped over themselves, their pupils dilated. The store is also poorly stocked, poorly maintained. And if you decide to come here during busy hours...be warned, they are severely understaffed and usually have one, MAYBE two lines open for a ton of customers, so you'll be waiting awhile. The tile is discounted because it doesnât meet manufacturers first quality specs according to the store manager, Derk. Sutherland fails to mention that in their ad or tell you before you buy it! Several weeks ago I purchased what I thought was first quality ceramic floor tile advertised in their local store flyer as a special âtruckloadâ sale. I purchased a total of 51 cartons of tile with 10 of those cartons coming from the Liberty store. The sales person was very helpful and called the Liberty store and had two employees verify that they had the 10 boxes in the same color. I was there when she called. I paid for all 51 cartons including the 10 cartons coming from the other location and an additional $80 for delivery. They said the would call me when they had the extra cartons and set up delivery. After a week of not hearing from them I called the Harrisonville store and was told the Liberty location never had the 10 cartons in my color and they couldnât get anymore as their special truck load tile was actually tile that didnât meet manufacturers specs and each store has no control over what they are sent!! The store manager said he would be happy to refund my money. That was big of them to refund my money for tile they sold me that they never had in the first place. Makes me wonder what else they sell that doesnât meet manufacturerâs specs! They made no effort to call the manufacturer to see if they could provide more tile and I ran into a dead end when I tried to track down the manufacturer online! Makes me wonder where they actually got the tile! This caused me a lot of problems as I had to cancel my contractor and was unable to complete the 806 sq ft project. I called Sutherlands corporate office in Kansas City to complain but was transferred to a person named Michelleâs voicemail. I Left a message but never received a call back. Very disappointed as this company is locally owned and has been around for a long time. Thought this was a company you could trust to treat their customers right. Guess I was wrong. Will take my business somewhere else...
   Read moreWe called sutherlands to ask about refrigerators yesterday they told us they exactly wanted we wanted went their today and they did not have any. When we explained we lived over 30miles away and called to make sure before we drove up pulling a trailer we were told well you didn't talk to me I don't know what to tell you. They were extremely rude and hateful mind you we looked over 5 minutes before we even found any to try and help. The 2 people at the register were eating pizza and said someone should be in that area over their and pointed, I said no need to be rude and they laughed and turned their back on me, why we were on our way out to go to a different store to BUY from them another customer was walking on his way out telling the employee well if you don't wanna help me I will go somewhere else the employee was yelling at him saying dude do what you want your not my problem and fk you go somewhere else ahole. Now that's the professional way to act. I will tell everyone about this so plan on loosing more business, and I will be contacting the BBB tomorrow. You lost $1000 just from us and no telling from the other gentleman. This should be addressed immediately, for your stores own...
