Not safe! On board fire, don't buy one!! I purchased a brand new Stingray, 180 RX in the spring of 2014. I have had nothing but trouble with the engine. Within the first two weeks we took the boat out and noticed it was taking on water through the engine. We barely made it back to the boat ramp before the engine would have stalled out and the boat would have sank. It turns out the engine had one missing mounting bolt and 3 incorrectly tightened ones. Repair was covered by warranty, but we were without our boat for a week. Next, we had a problem with the fuel pump. Same thing, first summer. Warranty work again. Without our boat again but longer this time. Now this summer, with weeks left in the summer before the Labor Day Holiday our engine caught fire while underway in the middle of the lake! Burned into the engine compartment damaging the seat above. We had a manual fire estinguisher on board or with a full tank of gas and a raging fire we hate to think what could have happened. Guess what? The Mercruiser warranty is covering all damage. Evidently our one year old boat had a leak in the power steering that then got hot and started the fire. Now it's a month without our boat and they want to give us a new Mercruiser engine and a patched up boat. We don't want it. My wife is afraid to go back on the boat, especially to take our small nieces/nephews onboard. And we have no word when we will get the boat back. If NC honored the Federal Lemon law they would be buying our boat back yesterday! We filed a complaint with SC BBB and have yet to hear back from Stingray boats. If they don't stand by the engines they sell them with, they shouldn't be...
Read moreWe ordered a boat from Stingray in January of 2021 and were told it would arrive to us in March of 2021, 10 weeks to be exact. When March rolled around we received no communication from the Marina we ordered it or from Stingray the manufacturer. When we called they of course said they were having delays due to Covid. This went on for months back and forth with the dealer…with little to no communication. We attempted to call Stingray with no call back. The marina kept telling us that it was a manufacturing delay. I asked that they at least communicate with us weekly on the status of our boat. We maybe got communication from them once a month. Boat came into the manufacturer in August…they promised it to us by Aug 16….you would assume it would come and we could take it home??? Right???? No it came with NO MOTOR and the answer was Stingray had no idea when the motor would come in. Terrible experience, and we lost thousands of dollars on storing a boat we never received. Buyers BEWARE, if you have issues they will not communicate with you whatsoever. They kept telling us to talk to the Marina who also was obviously getting no communication from them. Honestly, they act like a coming who is going bankrupt…I have never in my life dealt with a company...
Read moreMy Wife and I spent hours (3 days at the Edison NJ boat show AND close to 8 hours at the Atlantic City boat show!) looking at bowrider-style boats. If you're in the market for a bowrider, look no further than Stingray DC (dual console) models. The build quality is second to none and they have the nicest style head (bathroom) than any other manufacturer! And we looked at them all! We ordered a 231DC and are absolutely counting the minutes for...
