I travel for business on a weekly basis. I ultra rarely write a positive or negative review anywhere. This is an exception. Out of about 30 or so days, I am home anywhere from 4 to 6 days. Two of my colleagues that I was traveling with booked their rooms at the Fairfield Inn Marriott in Hartsville South Carolina and I followed just for the simplicity of hopping on conference calls and things of that nature.Unfortunately, when I went to check in on Tuesday, March 9th the first room issued to me shared a wall with the elevator. To most, that is no big deal. I am a very light sleeper and in my file I kindly requested that I'd be put away from an elevator and /or an ice machine. The young lady named Asia at the front desk was more than accommodating and I was very polite in asking for a different room and I gladly would have paid the upcharge if I needed to. The next room that they gave me was Room 300. I have been on the road all day so when I got into that room I went to use the restroom and noticed that there was dried dark yellow urine all over the back of the toilet, signifying to me that attention to detail was not paid during the cleaning of this room. I also noticed that the mirror had handprints all over the place but that was certainly not even remotely a concern after seeing the urine. I got with the general manager, Jaques Jackson and for the life of me I cannot recall him apologizing but he basically said, "I will give you a free night", which honestly does nothing. The third room was room 128 and upon opening the door you get slammed with the hot smell of stale cigarettes. I summoned my two coworkers one of which whose room smell identical to mine and they both agreed that the smell was outrageous. The general manager left me waiting at the front desk for over 30 minutes even after multiple attempts from Asia, the desk clerk, to get his attention. I kindly walked Mr. Jackson down to room 128 and had him enter while I stood at the door and he claimed to smell nothing. Management at this location was unapologetic and seemed uncaring. The contact numbers given to me by this general manager, Mr. Jackson, have not allowed me to get in contact with anybody. Apparently, I am to call a gentleman named Andy and the number he gave me was a number for a gentleman named Chris. After leaving two voicemails over a 24-hour period, no one has returned my call or picked up the phone.... so here I am. Needless to say, the three of us left within an hour of check-in and took our business elsewhere. The general manager attempted to make an excuse saying that this hotel is 20 years old and the local competitor's hotel was much newer. As a matter of fact, it doesn't matter how new your hotel is. What is most important is the cleanliness and how your customers are treated. In the event a representative for Marriott reads this please contact me, I'm curious as to what you may have to say.As of right now, I cannot recommend them at this location or Marriott in general due to their lack of concern.Note: The front desk clerk, Asia, was extremely kind and very apologetic to this situation.... Her supervisor Mr. Jackson on the other hand...
Read moreI just checked into the hotel and was a bit appalled at the service of the person at the desk. Her name was Cameka.
We requested a double room and were greeted with a large king bed. We just drove down 2.5 hrs from Greensboro, NC because my sister had a speaking engagement after working a full day as a principal at an elementary school where they are currently implementing a new engagement strategy. She was very drained and just needed to be able to take a shower so that we could go to the engagement by 5:15pm.
This was a simple fix, but the demeanor of Cameka was one that seemed as if she was very bothered by the fact that we asked for a change of rooms. When I called downstairs she rushed me off the phone and hung up before confirming if there was a room available or not. My sister went downstairs to ask about the room and she seemed very lackadaisical about the ordeal.
After placing our bags in the new room, I called downstairs by pressing 0, because I had another question. After waiting 5 minutes, I decided to go downstairs to check and see if there was an issue. I waited and listened and Cameka seemed to be taking a personal call while allowing the room to ring within her hearing range. I stood and listened to the ringing of the phone for about another five minutes before I stepped to the desk to ask for service. She promptly let us know that she was unable to assist us with our issue and then after responding preceded to answer the phone that I allowed to continue to ring while my nephew held the receiver from the room.
This was VERY unprofessional and unbecoming of the Marriott chain and I was very disappointed with how this was all handled. I've never had this experience at another Fairfield branding before. I felt as if Cameka became annoyed with us and ignored us intentionally despite my retaining a calm demeanor and courteous correspondence the entire time.
I would not recommend this particular Fairfield Inn as long as Cameka works at...
Read moreBreakfast was the best! Choice of Omelet or scrambled eggs, veggie or pork sausage, chunks of fresh fruit, hot oat meal not instant! Also choice of small or large size yoghurt, orange juice or apple juice and of course coffee choices too. Wife had the waffles. Various toppings were available. Milk and cold cereal also was there but I chose the oatmeal. Bananas and apples were there and slices of bread as well as sweet breads. The bathroom separated the sink area from the commode and bathtub area. There was a fan as well as a light in the commode tub area. Soaps were not perfumed which my wife liked. Room had a reasonably sized refrigerator (not tiny but not home sized) and a microwave on top and of course a TV and a business desk area between them. There were two comfortable queen sized beds and the hotel's guests were quiet so we got a restful nights sleep. Checkout wasn't until noon but we left before then. The exercise room had first rate equipment that was easy to use. I used the manual setting and got just what I wanted on the elliptical machine which fit my stride perfectly. It was the best machine at a hotel I have ever used. The elevator was quite small but we liked using the stairs to get more exercise. We were on the third floor. One can request the floor that they prefer. We did not use the pool but we could hear people in that area. There was no free newspaper as is often the case in many hotels; however, there were free cookies as we checked in that night. The hotel is somewhat hidden by the trees in front of it but our GPS was accurate in telling us to turn into the hotel parking lot. For those attending Coker College it is within a short walk of the school. We were visiting relatives nearby. Everyone was pleasant and helpful including Dina who put out the breakfast. The free internet option was fast enough. Check in and check out went as smooth as could be. Everything was clean and well cared for. All you would want in a...
