When I was a kid growing up I was fascinated with swords, knights, pirates, and all the staples you would expect to find at a great Ren fair. We used to go to our local Ren Fair every year until I was 9 or 10. Unfortunately, that experience was marred when fewer and fewer people decided to get involved, dress up, and even the workers and volunteers began to slack.
About 6 years ago I was able to attend the mid-Ohio Renaissance fest and it has been a breath of fresh air! All of the vendors, actors, and even a majority of the attendees dress in their favorite outfits and really get into it. The shows are wonderful and even seeing some on repeat (missing you, Cristoph the Insulter) is a great time.
The food is wonderful and varied. You can get hamburgers and turkey legs but also be on the lookout for more unique treats you wouldn't expect to find, such as crepes or Cajun cuisine. The alcohol selection is wonderful too! They always have a huge selection of meads including a new vendor this year: Crafted. I would highly recommend it.
There are so many fun shops to visit as well! Of course there's going to be people who are buying things from China and selling it off again, but there is also a huge amount of handmade artisan goods and clothing that are leaps and bounds better quality than anything you can buy on Amazon.
3 years ago I introduced my now wife to the Ren fest and she has comes back every year, now dressed as a sassy pirate. This year I got to take our daughter for the first time and my brother and sister-in-law. I'm looking forward to next year when our costumes grow and our clan grows as well! Bring your friends. Bring your family. It's a wonderful time...
Read moreSept 8 2024 My very first time coming & it was fairy theme day. If you're looking for a unique & fun thing to do this fall I recommend coming here. I had so much fun people watching and seeing all the beautiful costumes. The minute I arrived I was amazed by how some people go all out for a day of fantasy. The shops are high dollar, but it’s cool to window shop and see all the vendors. I recommend checking out the shows 1) mud wrestling 2) medieval horse performance 3) magic show. I ate a pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese for an affordable price($13). I suggest spending the whole day here and really taking your time to see everything especially with how high admission cost. I would like to check out the other themes over the years too. To save yourself time buy admission tickets online for quicker access. I do think there should be a huge restroom facility here instead of porter potties in designated areas as there’s no place to change a baby or toddler. I recommend bringing cash too to avoid standing in line for the ATM as it could get long & some shops only accept cash and all games are cash only. Oh & for all my sandal loving people, best advice I can inform you on is wear closed toe shoes or you will have gravel dust all over your feet and shoes. It isn’t a...
Read moreAs always, we had a good time. There is so much to do... Lots of food to eat, many drinks to imbibe, fun games to play, wonderful shops to peruse, and of course so many shows to watch. It's a great place to spend the day with the family. That being said, I've been going to the Renaissance Festival for 20 years and it has been getting more and more crowded every year. Because of this, traffic and parking has gotten worse each year as well. So, be prepared to wait in traffic to park. Make sure you buy your tickets online before you get there and have the QR code ready on you phone because reception is usually spotty out there. Also, be prepared for long lines for food and drink. I seems like they must have made some changes this year because traffic and parking wasn't as bad as last year. They were not charging a separate parking fee which lessened the stop and go for the vehicles trying to enter and park. There were quite a few new restaurants but that did not lessen the lines for food and drink that much. I didn't get to eat a Steak on a Stake this year. I looked but couldn't find it anywhere. If it was eliminated, please...
