Hawkins Ace Hardware — Local services in Hawkins

My house was affected by the big freeze last winter and all the work was not completed until about a week ago. I needed insulation for under the house and because I BELIEVE IN SUPPORTING THE LOCAL STORES I didn’t go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and pick it up I waited until Ace in Hawkins Tx could get some in. The freeze did so much damage around here that I had to wait several Months for all the work to be done. I asked when I ordered the insulation if I had extra could I return it and was told Yes. Well today June 24th I brought in to the store 3 rolls of insulation. After I brought in the 3rd roll the Manager said I couldn’t return them because it was past 30 days. I wish that I was told that when I asked to order it. I understand that stores have policies and I’m fine with that but once again I Wasn’t told that when I ordered it. The thing that got me the most was the way the Manager just dismissed me and said it was over 30 days. There’s other local stores that I can shop at and I will no longer spend one penny at ACE HARDWARE IN HAWKINS TX. Most shops around here are great to do business with and nothing like a big box store. Ps—I was also about to spend over 2 hundred bucks today in that shop. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a real hardware store in town. I remember when they first came. I didn't think I'd frequent them as much as I do. I figured if I needed something I'd go to Mineola if the wannabe hardware store on 80 didn't have it. I was wrong.. My pipes froze and they had everything I needed and it was a short drive. I had to install a dishwasher and a plumbing part was missing..they had that too. I've needed some electrical stuff to finish a project and they had it all. I'm always buying my wood smoker pellets there since they have a nice selection. I've also had multiple propane bottles filled and it's always cheaper than renting one at the grocery store down the way. The staff is always friendly and helpful. There has never been a time that I've walked in there that I haven't been approached by at least two different employees offering to help me find whatever I need. God Bless the sweet, hard-working folks at the Hawkins, Texas Ace Hardware!!! In the aftermath of the June 15, 2023 storms, with no power in the store, the wonderful employees of Ace Hardware/Hawkins STILL made sure to show up for work, knowing that many people would be in need of chainsaws, tools, generators and other essential supplies. Business was conducted by flashlight and with only a few fans run by a generator, they were there, in temperatures exceeding 100° & with a heat index hovering near 109°, smiling and reminding US to stay cool and don't get overheated! These folks are what makes the United States, Texas and Wood County a great place to live!!
