Sonic Drive-In — Restaurant in Hawkins

I frequent this place because it’s basically the only fast food restaurant in a 30 mile radius. The owner is keenly aware of this fact and exploits it to his advantage by understaffing it with young folks who don’t have a lot of employment opportunities around this area. These young people work so hard and do the best they can, but this location is so understaffed that on a weekend during lunch rush they might have one or two carhops to service 50-100 cars (while also dealing with drive thru). This causes some of the customers to lose their cool and treat these young people poorly. Management doesn’t seem to care.

As I write this now, I’ve been waiting 20 minutes for a Route 44 Coke. And cars just keep piling in. There’s no concern from the franchise owner for the well being of his employees or the satisfaction of his customers; it’s all about keeping expenses as low as possible so he can take advantage of this being the only fast food restaurant around.

The owner should be ashamed of himself for putting his employees through this mess. He should be even more ashamed that he allows them to be abused by frustrated customers who would go somewhere else if another option was available. I frequent the Sonic in Hawkins multiple times a month. My kid is autistic and sonic is one of the main foods she will tolerate as far as taste and texture. After spending a weekend working tirelessly with my family we decided to order ahead today 20241020 to get several things to cover our lunch and reward ourselves for our hard work and sacrifices we've made recently. Being that we ordered ahead we thought we wouldn't have to wait long to get our food and go home to rest and have dinner together. I was wrong. This experience today has convinced my entire family to take our business elsewhere. We got to the sonic, checked in and ended up getting the wrong order to start with, then we had to sit and watch multiple people walk out to deliver orders while we sat for over 30 minutes before ours was brought out in pieces. No bag to contain everything, no box. NOTHING. And my daughter had to eat her blast with her fingers because I had asked for a spoon 3 times and it took them the entire 30+ minutes to bring us one!
