The Laurels of Hendersonville was the second rehab facility my Dad stayed in. The first facility (terrible) was just prior to his hospitalization for Covid and The Laurels of Hendersonville was the second facility, post- Covid hospitalization. We were understandably nervous about a new experience in a skilled nursing facility.
However, Laurels of Hendersonville was 180 degrees the opposite experience from Dads pre-Covid experience. They immediately began an intake protocol that included an organized checklist of best practices - (refreshing in light of our previous experience). The administration at Laurels is a very compassionate and dynamic team, and they value family input. The nurse/CNA staff (extremely well-staffed) is also a highly-qualified, dynamic team, and greets patients with kindness, as if they truly understand “they are not giving you a hard time, they are having a hard time”. It’s not easy to be a patient in rehab, but the high level and professionalism of the staff made it much easier.
Over the course of the month my dad was there, Laurel staff kept a close eye on his progress and continued recovery from Covid, with a special focus on PT/OT. The PT staff at Laurels is one of the finest I’ve seen for my dad, who is physically disabled. This team actually made him stronger and renewed his desire to work hard to become more independent. He asked me to buy him a few pairs of athletic shorts because he was working up a healthy sweat. They made him want to get up and do the work and he loved it. Just prior to the Covid diagnosis, my dad’s assisted living facility had given up on him saying he was ineligible because he needed a “higher level of service”. He was not welcomed back. But because of The Laurels, my dad, now completely healthy except for his movement disorder, was able to go back to a “one- person assist” assisted living resident. We owe Laurels so much for bringing our dad back to us, healthier and...
Read moreI recently spent twelve days at The Laurels for skilled nursing and rehab.
I found the staff to be professional, attentive and accommodating. The administrative staff worked to implement my care plan. Each area representative evaluated me and discussed my goals to determine how they could best meet my needs. The nursing staff was attentive and professional and made sure I was receiving my IVs and oral medications on schedule. The CNA's were some of the hardest working people I have observed. The patient requests were usually more than they could address at once, but they did their best to get to each one in as timely as possible. Each staff member did their best to meet my needs. I was always treated with dignity and respect.
I needed assistance with regaining my strength, reestablishing my balance and rebuilding my independent walking skills. The physical therapists and occupational therapists developed a plan to help me achieve my goals and worked with me daily to rebuild me to the point where I could go home and resume my daily activities. Their efforts were successful, as I have been able to return to work.
Overall, I cannot imagine having a more positive experience. I feel that the staff is excellent and appreciate the care that each one provided. It's reassuring to know that there are good facilities in our community for persons who need that...
Read moreWe are in the process of researching other rehab/skilled nursing facilities for my dad and I was reminded of his stay this past March at the Laurels of Hendersonville. I had intended to write a review shortly after we had him removed from the facility, but I go busy. Other than the doctor who is on staff and the speech therapist who worked with him on his swallowing/eating, his care was terrible. We asked them to change my dad into regular clothes during the day and into his pajamas at night. When we would come each day, he would still be in his pajamas. Finally, after two days of seeing him in the same dirty clothes, we decided to change him ourselves. That's when we found his ankles had become extremely swollen. Had they been changing him regularly, as we asked, they would have noticed the swelling right away. He had many items of clothing, as well as a pair of expensive prescription reading glasses stolen. We even found his clothes on several of the patients. He was supposed to be receiving regular physical therapy and also being walked by staff during the day. The physical therapy was minimal, if at all and they never walked him once. I would never recommend this...
