Gordy's Gift & Garden Center — Local services in Hermantown

Not a good experience this time around. I’ve been coming to gordy’s for years and within the last 6 months this has happened twice to me now. I grabbed two bags of perlite which have a price sticker directly on them stating they are 10.95 a piece. After I checked out and received my receipt, which I asked for after the total seemed a bit high, I noticed I was charged 12.95 each for the bags of perlite. And I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal $4-$5, but it’s the principle. I brought it to the cashiers attention and she tells me, “well sometimes the prices go up”. I then stated that the sticker clearly says it’s 10.95 and she hesitantly says she can go and ask a manager so I said that would be great. I told her I didn’t want to have to return and then rebuy the products because I didn’t want the money out of my account for a week. She starts working on the register and tells me I can put in my card and I double check and ask her that I don’t have to rebuy the product and she says that yes I do, after I just specifically said I didn’t want to do that, so good thing I double checked, again. In the end I decided to just return the perlite and will buy elsewhere. Customer service definitely needs to be worked on and if the price of something is going to be changed, the sticker on the product should also...

I can't say enough how much I love this place!! I've lived in Duluth my entire life yet somehow only visited this place for the first time a couple of months ago. They have so many plants, decorations, gifts and everything you could need for your indoor and outdoor gardening needs.

What I love most are the succulents-I literally bought nearly every type they had for my collection at home, as I like to propagate the leaves and stems. Well we went back a couple weeks ago and there were several new varieties!

The plants that are older or dying they will sell for cheap, we personally olive to try reviving them or use clippings to propagate. Some of the pots I personally think are a bit too spendy, but they are very nice looking and everything seems to be strong and well put together! Even my kiddos who are all three under ten love...

Have been having a mixed bag of experiences here. Staff are always wonderful but a number of indoor plants we've bought here have had pests, such at spider mites and mealy bugs... Neither of which do you want to be introducing into a large collection of indoor plants.

Definitely a place to stop and browse, just be sure to tread carefully - give your plants a good visual inspection, a proactive treatment, and keep them quarantined for a while before mixing them into your household.
