CHALMERS: Well, Seymour, I made it... despite your directions. SKINNER: Ah, Superintendent Chalmers! Welcome! I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable luncheon! CHALMERS: Uhh... SKINNER: [gasp] Oh egads, my roast is ruined! But what if... I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking? [to himself] Oh ho ho ho ho... delightfully devilish, Seymour! CHALMERS: Uh- [cue song] Skinner with his crazy explanations, The superintendent's gonna need his medication, When he hears Skinner's lame exaggerations, There'll be trouble in town tonight! [end of song] CHALMERS: Seymour! SKINNER: Superintendent, I was just, uh... just stretching my calves on the windowsill. Isometric exercise! Care to join me? CHALMERS: Why is there smoke coming out of your oven, Seymour? SKINNER: Uhh... no! That isn't smoke. It's steam. Steam from the steamed clams we're having! Mmm... steamed clams! [beat] Ooh... [a few moments later] SKINNER: Superintendent, I hope you're ready for mouthwatering hamburgers! CHALMERS: I thought we were having steamed clams. SKINNER: D'oh, no. I said steamed hams! That's what I call hamburgers! CHALMERS: You call hamburgers "steamed hams?" SKINNER: Yes. It's a regional dialect! CHALMERS: Uh-huh... uh, what region? SKINNER: Uhh... upstate New York? CHALMERS: Really? Well, I'm from Utica, and I've never heard anyone use the phrase "steamed hams." SKINNER: Oh, not in Utica, no. It's an Albany expression. CHALMERS: I see. [beat] You know, these hamburgers are quite similar to the ones they have at Krusty Burger. SKINNER: Oh ho ho ho... no, patented Skinner burgers. Old family recipe. CHALMERS: For steamed hams? SKINNER: Yes. CHALMERS: Yeah, so you call them "steamed hams" despite the fact they are obviously grilled. SKINNER: Ye- hey- you know, the- one thing I should- excuse me for one second. CHALMERS: Of course. SKINNER: [YAWN] Well, that was wonderful. A good time was had by all, I'm pooped. CHALMERS: Yes, I should be- Good Lord, what is happening in there!? SKINNER: Aurora borealis? CHALMERS: Uh- aurora borealis!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen!? SKINNER: Yes! CHALMERS: May I see it? SKINNER: No. SKINNER'S MOTHER: Seymour, the house is on fire! SKINNER: No, mother—it's just the northern lights! CHALMERS: Well, Seymour, you are an odd fellow, but I must say... you steam a good ham. SKINNER'S...
Read moreI use the rec center many times throughout the week. The student employees are super friendly and fantastic. I however have a major grievance as far as court usage. Many times I have showed up to join friends for pickup volleyball. Usually there is a net up but many times we have so many people that only one volleyball net is not enough. We have asked many times lately if a second net could be put up, but they have declined because they need 3 courts up for basketball. The last time (honest 2-3 times) my friends brought up this policy, there was only one person shooting hoops on one of the courts, while there were 12-15 people waiting on a volleyball net because the other net was being used. At one point, there was NO ONE playing basketball on a court but the employees said they couldn’t violate the “3 courts must be open for basketball” policy. Again this has happened multiple times. Many of these people who use the rec for this reason I’ve spoken to about this, and it turns out they had bought passes for the day (which cost 10-15 dollars) or memberships primarily to use to play indoor volleyball. Because of this many people who had shown up felt like they had bought these day passes or memberships for no reason. Especially as there were courts mostly open but unavailable due to the “basketball prioritization” policy. I feel like NKUs rec center is taking advantage of those who pay for day passes to play other sports such as volleyball only to force them to feel like they are wasting their money. Multiple people from this group have expressed to me they are considering cancelling their memberships or never buying day passes anymore because it feels like if you’re not playing basketball, you are not a priority. This is a major missed opportunity by NKU rec to push a large group of people away who would be paying to use their facilities because of this policy. I have also heard that this is not a student worker or base level employee issue. This is a policy that comes from the facility managers. This has been very frustrating and I hope NKU makes changes to this policy. Otherwise they could lose some money from paying...
Read moreI’ve been going to NKU rec center since I was undergrad the rec center hours are terrible because they can’t afford to hire real staff so they only hire the students that are still on campus during the summer which usually on consist of international students who have to be on campus year round which is great they get to make money. But then the rules change on the website it states that they close at 9pm so I assume I can leave out right at 9pm I always set a timer and now they are saying they close at 8:55? I’ve never heard that before until this summer. The person stated that we have to make sure everyone is out of here? The workers literally just stand around I don’t know why we all can’t leave right at 9pm. The rec center is just inconsistent and there’s always an issue and they are always raising the prices because NKU has YET to pay off the rec center after almost 10 years and as a university they are struggling financially. NKU is truly a mess after August I will never renew my membership I already paid for the...
