Last weekend, on the spur of the moment, we decided to visit The Preserve of Highland Park. What a great decision! In the past, we walked this area when it was a golf course - and it was pleasant enough as long as one stayed out of the way of the golfers. That is no longer a problem as this huge expanse of park land has been transformed into a nature preserve. Majestic mature trees are everywhere and large areas have been converted to pastures of native flowers and grasses. A former sand trap is now an egg laying habitat for turtles. Read moreWe visited the Preserve of Highland Park this past Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful nature park. It's about 100 acres in size with 5 miles of black-topped trails winding through the many mature trees and meadows and around the ponds. The land was formerly a golf course and it's still somewhat of a work in progress as it is being restored to a more natural state. We saw loads of great birds including four red-headed woodpeckers. Please don't be dissuaded from visiting this lovely and peaceful park by the negative review by another visitor based on her unsubstantiated claim of alleged blastomycosis...

Please visit with precaution. My dog and I came here 3 days a week, and this area was recently under construction which can kick up Blasto. My dog most likely contracted Blasto around September, and recently passed away from it.
