I highly recommend JM Instruction for the Mass Firearms Safety Course. Joe is personable and makes an effort to connect with each person in his class. He is also extremely knowledgable in all things pertaining to guns, his background and training is quite extensive. I took a class a few years back and did not feel the least bit ready to apply for my LTC afterwards. Not that I didn't know the laws, I can read and comprehend. But knowing my way around a handgun, no. This class was hands on, Joe supplied guns and training "dummy" ammo for each person in the class. For anyone unfamiliar with handguns it is a really good way to get a comfort level in a controlled environment. He also answered every question we all had for him and did not move on with the curriculum until he felt we were all following along. I also opted for the Live Fire class afterwards (which is required by my town for LTC) but if you want some really good personal instruction on aim, stance, trigger control, etc. take this added option even if it's not required. You will be better for it. My shooting within the first few minutes was better than its been all year. My husband and I took this course together and it was such a great experience. We have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from taking this class that we certainly didn't have walking in. Joe is so patient, extremely knowledgeable and skillful. He put everyone at ease and explained the entire process of getting your LTC and what is expected of a gun owner. Then we headed over to the range after the 4 hour class. (Which went by so quickly) I have shot once before under instruction but never at this comfort level, he really put me at ease. His instructions were so precise for you to stay focused, calm and accurate. We had a group of 8 at range, we shot in two small groups and really got individual attention. We were able to shoot 50 rounds, 40 under guided instruction and 10 on our own. My 10 after Joe's instruction is pictured below, to show you how I was able to take what I learned into action.
