Great communication prior to diving, very accessible for all questions even those not dive related prior to arriving on island.
Well prepared day of with plenty of extra gear for divers to borrow (great sales technique). But not many places let you try gear before buying it. And he doesn’t push the sale on you after. If he does try to sell you gear you can tell he pushes the gear that’s best for your needs, not the most expensive. Sometimes what is best for you is the most expensive though. I did watch him talk someone out of the top of the line computer that was like $1300 and into a $500 version based on their diving needs. You can tell he prefers costumer satisfaction over making money. This is why I will continue to come back.
Always has small group sizes which make it more personal. Never dives on those boats with 30 divers and gear all over the place.
Very knowledgeable and more than willing to teach/inform even if you’re just fun diving and not in a course.
And I’m putting this at the end for the people that actually read all the way through. To me it’s the most important. He’s very safety oriented. Does not push limits or allow his divers to push limits. Detailed dive briefings that accurately describe the entire process of entry, the dive site, exit, and any signals needed and safety protocols.

Read moreEd goes above and beyond for his divers. While I have my own equipment, I frequently book charters with visiting family who need to rent equipment. While diving with another shop for the first (and last) time, one of my guests rented a wetsuit that was marginally thinner than a rash guard in the winter. When I questioned the shop about it, they said that when the wetsuits get old they are thinner. I think as divers, we generally understand that, but once the wetsuit is offering zero protection from the cold perhaps it needs retired. Ed’s rental gear has always been in good shape. And his prices are super competitive. Lower, significantly lower in fact, than the operator who I mentioned with the useless rental wetsuit.
He is not a “check the boxes” instructor. I have had the opportunity to see him with numerous students. He always seems invested in their dive knowledge.
He’s a knowledgeable, safety minded dive professional who I recommend without...
Read moreI dove with Ed at the end of 2021 and have been recommending him ever since to anyone going to Oahu! Friends and co-workers have followed that recommendation and have reported back how much they enjoyed their experience diving with Ed.
On the first day of diving, my then 13 year old son came along and Ed was very patient with him when he had trouble clearing his ears. His calm and confident manner made my son feel safe and we had a wonderful experience. The second day, Ed took me out to a couple of deeper wrecks in front of Waikiki for some great dives. As on the previous day, Ed's briefing of the dive sites before the dives were very comprehensive and he took us to all the interesting sights and critters he had mentioned. If that wasn't all, Ed also let me keep two tanks and a wet suit for another couple of beach dives later that week.
I wholeheartedly recommend Ed and Oahu Travel Divers and hope to get to dive with Ed again in the...
