I cannot speak highly enough about Smith Family Dojo. Sensei Smith has been amazing with my children during the after school program. I have sat in and watched a few of their classes and it is utterly amazing how well Sensei interacts with all of the children (not just my two). I have watched my children become more focused and confident in just the short amount of time they have attended the dojo. I definitely think you get more bang for your buck with the after school program as well. They offer pickup from Baldwin Elementary School, snack, a 30 minute Karate class, homework time and help with homework and free time. Read moreMy children ages 5 & 8 started at the Smith Family Dojo almost a year ago. In this past year they have grown to enjoy martial arts, and that is all due to the teachings of Sensei Kevin Smith. He is patient, engaging, and encouraging when teaching Okinawa Kenpo history and techniques. All these qualities help the students learn and grow in a positive environment. The studio is also centered around family. Each month a dojo event is held to give students and their families an opportunity to mix and mingle with each other. Read moreIt is rare nowadays to find a martial arts dojo that is not only dedicated to its students, but to its ART. In a time where dojos are going bigger, flashier, and more modern (?) Smith family dojo, and Smith Sensei are all about the traditions of Okinawa Kenpo and the way it was taught originally. You can watch videos of Smith sensei and then watch videos of Master Odo and see very little difference in the way they each perform their katas or techniques.
