John Macinnes Student Ice Arena — Local services in Houghton

Was driving by and decided to stop and check out the arena. It was open to the public. Very nice arena. Doesn't seem like there's a bad seat in the barn. The building was spotless. Can't wait to check out a tech hockey game here. Update Came back to see Michigan tech vs Ferris St. Great hockey environment. Student section was into the game the whole game. Gets pretty loud in the building. It's got the feel of an old school hockey barn that's been modernized. Concessions are very affordable. Would definitely come back to see...

In Jan of 1972 the first sheet of ice was laid down. The cement floor was very dark grey and the clear ice made it difficult to "see". Fearing for the safety of the Huskies first practice, Coach MacInnes asked me to assemble a group of our local MTU Intramural team to skate and play to scratch up and make the ice white. We did for three hours that evening. They now paint the ice....

One of the best, if not the best Ice Rink I have even attended. Usually they have ice all year. We have attended figure skate camps here where. It’s 90° outside. Solid smooth ice no matter when it is. The Zamboni drivers are all top notch, never half assing it out there. And to top it all off the Michigan Technological University Huskies play here, always...
