This was the first time I ever played disc golf, so I wasn't sure what to think. The course is part of Central Park in my hometown of Huntington Beach, which is a really amazing place. I went to check in and found the "clubhouse" rather comical, but truly, it was everything that I needed. However, upon first glance, it reminded me of a snack shack at a low-end little league complex, poorly run by the teams' older and unmotivated sisters. But like I said, I shouldn't have passed judgment so quickly, as the attendant was very nice and he had a giant of a puppy that was very happy to greet everyone. The price was so low that, even with rental discs, I honestly don't remember the exact amount. But at less than $10, I can't think anything that you can do for two hours for a better value. The course, even though it wasn't all that large in acreage, felt larger based on the nice and varied layout. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a sport, but I really enjoyed trying a new-to-me recreation. The only negative that I have to add was that at times, it was difficult to understand where the target was. But in the end, I came to accept that as part of the adventure. To add one more positive, dogs are allowed to tag along, and my little chihuahua had a great time and slept for a very long time after all...
Read moreGreat disk golf location within a great park, as it’s one of the best things about Huntington Beach, without the beach! Still close enough to the ocean for an optimal comfort level. There may be as much as a twenty degree temperature difference, considering seasonal extremes, between here and inland courses! The scenery adds to the ambience of the game, while providing distractions and obstacles, making the sport more challenging! The cost of three dollars per person weekday’s and four dollars on weekends and holidays is negligible, considering the care and improvements, not to mention the exclusivity that may slow the general park goers from stepping over at random into the players field of play. The course also features a dedicated parking lot with a pro-shop and port-a-potty’s. I like the all encompassing park here. It’s possible with endless possibilities at the adjoining park sections, as a hike, picnic, more sports and activities with friends, family and the kids that can fit in the schedule. I’d advise to park accordingly, as the Huntington Beach Disk Golf Course parking lot can get crowded on weekends and holidays. 2024 rainy season has helped to rejuvenate the lawn, so it may be time to get on the green and get on...
Read moreBeing a visitor in the Huntington Beach area, this was the first time I have ever had to pay admission to play disc golf. However the $3 fee was well worth it to play on this sublime course. Visitors are greeted with the admissions office that doubles as a pro shop with a wide variety of discs, and even some T-shirts for sale. There is no shortage of practice baskets, and maps along with score cards are also provided. There is a fair amount of elevation change on certain holes, but it makes for a nice challenge. The mixture of open space and trees was nice. There was ample shade without the trees being too obstructing. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be hitting trees however, and the notches and marks that line them are evidence of this. The course is very well maintained, and the indicators showing the way to the next hole are very clear. I like the fact that each hole has a set of A, B, and C holes which adds variability depending on the day. The smell of the ocean, and the wandering ducks that frequent the shady areas complete what is a...
