Well maintained boat. Hardworking crew. Captain got us on early season mahi so 2/3 were too small to keep and the keepers were barely big enough
Asked to get on tuna, sailfish, wahoo or anything else with more than 5-hrs left in the 8-hr charter. This part of the day was disappointing because the crew dropped one line down with a weight and caught something themselves, then told me to reel it in after stopping long enough for a shark immediately rip it off. They left that spot and didn't try again.
Then the crew said we'd give up on all of that and instead troll for marlin. He explained it was an intricate process of setting up the bait and having the marlin hit the teaser then the bait. Weirdly we didn't have live or dead bait on any of the lines and the teaser wasn't out for hours of the charter while we just slowly trolled towards the Marina. He also put away the wahoo line so we didn't even have a chance to nab one of them. This was all disappointing for us given the amount of time left in the charter. We figured that we should have just paid for a half day charter because the crew who had been gung ho having three red bulls in the morning suddenly slumped off and was now cleaning the boat and not actively fishing with the live or dead bait we had on board.
We did spend a few minutes over a wreck chumming out all the live bait we didnt use to fish for tuna et al over the humps and we didn't attach a weight to the line for unknown reasons so it was a failed activity. We literally just stood there watching the small boat next to us successfully wrangle a fish from a tiny boat, making us think to ourselves we should have charter a cheaper, smaller boat and would have had more action. It was a bad second half of the day
I would highly recommend Captain Kit for a half day and probably full day with different crew but his crew unfortunately didn't sustain for the duration of our trip and it was a big let down. As soon as we got off the boat and we're having our fish filleted the crew was chugging a beer at 3p, it was generally off putting
We chose this company because of numerous highly recommended reviews so we left...
Read moreâCATCHâ WITH THE BEST!! I am an outdoor freak. Have a great respect for GODâs creations, love fishing and hunting and anything outdoors. Itâs not just about the harvest, itâs also about the beauty of HIS creation and the time spent in it with really good people. I have been blessed to have gone on over 100+ chartered fishing trips over the last 45 years. Fish do not jump in the boat every day, nor are they in the same place everyday. Seasons change, weather changes, a fishâs home and appetite changes I have learned there is âfishingâ and there is âcatchingâ, and most often the difference comes in the knowledge and the willingness to adapt of the captain/guide. Too often in fishing, and in life, we get caught up in the same daily routine, and in doing so we donât even attempt to be versatile to get a better result. I went out with Dirty Boat on 7/9 for trolling and 7/11 for bottom fishing, and had two of the best trips ever! Capt Kit Carson and his mate Angel proved they are one of the BEST charter boats in Islamorada and many other places I have been. They showed the knowledge, versatility, and willingness to adapt to what was needed to turn a day of fishing into catching. They used techniques I had never seen before and worked diligently to make sure we were in the right spots and that fresh baits stayed in the water. The outcome was 9 different species of fish, some I had never seen or caught before which was way cool. But what I enjoyed most was the Capt coming down to the fishing deck and making himself a part of it all with me and his mate that made it all come together. I would highly recommend Dirty Boat to anyone and look forward to my next trip with them!! Mike...
