Dutch Country Ace Hardware — Local services in Jackson Township

After Wilhelm's Hardware closed, I went to this store more often.

The layout is nice and spacious.

THE HELP:

The guys are nice but they cannot find anything, over and over and over.

So I asked for something I bought there before, they said they never sold that. After hearing this too many times, I drive home and still had a little of the product left, drove back, finally found the guy and showed him.

He said "Hmm", looked at the number went to the display and found the item tag/number but sold out. I asked can you order it. He went to the computer, looked it up and said "I would have to buy 10 and you just want one, so I cannot".

I have driven home to bring the product I was looking for that they said they NEVER had 3 times to try to find it!

Another time I was looking for a card of button batteries, I asked where do you have them. They took me to single button batteries. I said you had a large card with about 30 button batteries of different sizes. He said we never had that, you bought it somewhere else. I picked up another item and went to checkout, and there in the discount area is where they were!

So I went back to the guy and showed him. He said "OK".

Now this has happened so many times, and the employees I am writing about are not temporaries but long term full time workers that I recognize and have bought from before..

Another time we were looking for a plumbing part, plastic. They looked and looked and could not find it. Then my wife found it.

The same with rubber and plastic/nylon washers.

THE PRICE:

All ACE products in this store are generally higher than the same BRAND name products, and ACE products are generally inferior, such as ACE Nylon packing tape comapred to 3M nylon filament packing tape, ACE's paint equivalent to Rustoleum brush on paint, etc.

So now I just drive to Lebanon, HomeDepot or Walmart or Lowes.

For fasteners, I drive to Goods Ace in Schaefferstown. The selection is less but better organized. Both regular screws, bolts, nuts and stainless steel.

I miss Wilhelm's in quality, price and experienced help.

This review is long but it is accurate and depicts my frustration and trying to purchase specific items that really are not rare and they them.

And pricing of ACE brand items is better at other ACE stores.

Went to Ace in Myerstown for the first time recently. My dad has been there many times. His sump pump broke when I was visiting my parents. My dad is 80 and is having some issues that come with age, so I drove him to Ace & went inside. My dad always gets his money's worth, so he probably hasn't purchased a sump pump in 40 years. I was EXTREMELEY impressed with the above-and-beyond level of customer service that Dean in plumbing provided! Seriously, I was blown away. Dean was friendly, funny, extremely knowledgable and very patient and kind to my dad. Dean even opened two boxes to make sure we got the right one. He practically hooked it up right there in the store. My mom & dad told me they've had outstanding service with other employees at yhis Ace, as well. The worst service i've ever seen from any company. I've been trying to get a piece of glass cut from them for the past month and every time I stop by they tell me the same story, "we don't have a piece that size, we'll order it, it will be in next Monday." I show up next Monday and they still don't have it and then it's the same story, "we don't have a piece that size, we'll order it, it will be in next Monday." Rinse and repeat for 4 weeks and that's my experience. Not once did anyone even ask for my name, not once did anyone ask for contact info that they could let me know when the glass came in, not once did anyone even seem like they cared at all, it was just that same story over and over again. I will never spend a cent at this or any Ace Hardware ever again in my life. Good riddance to...
