I attended this school a while back. I felt compelled to leave a review as I hardly ever do... I had plenty of scary experiences there and only a handful of good ones... Where to start? Basically, they allow just about anybody to attend the school. There really isn't a certain level you have to surpass to "get in." That's pretty "out there" for a school that tries to make such a great name for itself. This brings in lots of unwanted students (i.e., thugs from the street) and invites lots of crime to the school. Even the security there can't be trusted. I was robbed by security once and he made it seem as if I was the criminal... How can I rob myself? The campus is (was) just unsafe. They also have plenty of sub-par professors. My Chemistry professor, who supposedly held a PhD, had completely forgotten a few basic elements on the periodic table. My Speech professor was a homophobic wacko who seemingly improvised every lecture he gave (not that that's a bad thing, but he did it horribly); there was no structure, books, syllabus, or anything of that nature. Several other bad experiences I had there, but that's not to say that it's not a school worth going to. The professors I did have that were good, I benefited greatly from. It's all about what you put into it in the end, anyway. I've known several students who I befriended during my years there that have gone off to become some pretty important figures at some major, major firms, businesses, agencies, so on and so forth. Don't go here thinking you're too good for the school. Be humble, perform well, and get the hell...
Read moreI transferred to Jackson State, because it's home. Being a transfer student, I've had no help with anything basically. I would talk to my advisor who talks to me as if I'm dumb and the dept head I suppose of my department has the worse attitude in the world everytime I have to do anything related to her. I was placed in a class that I have no idea what it is and nothing was explained to me. I am told to go to different buildings with no explanation of where the building is after I keep telling them I transferred. I've been giving 5 different names about a pre health advisor, which I still haven't found. You would think you would feel right at home being African American attending a HBCU, not for me. I felt at home at the PWI I was attending, because they cared about what you needed to get done. At JSU they're like do what you want to do. I do love the campus, the professors and classes are awesome. They do give you alot of work which is better for your grade. It's a reasonable price. Don't understand why all of the security is by the JSU welcome center, and none walking around the back of the campus or front whatever. I don't do anything on campus, because nothing is welcoming to join, no one publicizes anything like hey come join our club! not since I've been there. I'm just ready to get my Bachelor's and go, that's if I don't...
Read moreJSU is a good affordable school for students who want a good education at a low price. JSU professors gives students plenty of h/work assignments, quizzes, tests, and research assignments. JSU has many students that graduate & attend Harvard, Howard, & even Brown University. They students also go overseas to China & Chile. Yes, JSU staff are not the best at being sweet, charming, & even top of the line professionals. But they are helpful & get the job done. The financial aid department gives the students their money with a breeze & have many operators to assist students. The bookstore is loaded with books at a cheap price, they have laptops, other electronics and even clothing gear.
Some teachers are nice & some are rude. I admonish all students to keep up with their documents & contact higher authority if there is a problem in the classroom. There will NEVER be a instituition with 100% perfect people. Just like Wal-mart is the number 1 leading grocery, clothing, electronic, etc store with affordable pricing, great products, and a good staff; JSU is the same way.
You dont have to spend a million dollars to get an education, neither do you have to spend half of that to get a good education. Be smart, choose wisely, choose JSU. I did.:) (2011 "summa cum...
