Friendly employees, fresh and delicious burgers and fries, with vegan/vegetarian options! On our drive back to New Orleans from Memphis, we were looking for a place to stop for lunch. This place popped up as "the best burger in Mississippi," so we figured why not? The place is small, a few stools at a countertop overlooking the kitchen, and a couple of benches to sit and wait, which we did have to do. The kitchen employees were nonstop the whole time we were there, making a constant stream burgers, many of which were call ahead orders, something worth doing to avoid such a long wait! (We will remember for next time!) We ended up waiting almost an hour for our food, but no regrets at all! My husband and I had a nice chat with another customer who was waiting, (shout out to Mr. Douglas!) so between that and watching the burger assembly line, and reading the articles on the wall from various publications they have been featured in (USA today, MSN, Readers Digest - all voting them among the top restaurant/burger in the state and/or country), the time went by fairly quickly. My husband and kids got cheeseburgers and I got the vegan portobello burger, with added grilled onions. For a small family-run burger place, it was a special treat to to see that obviously a lot of care had been put into having a great vegan/vegetarian burger option (as many chain restaurants don't even offer this) and I was thoroughly satisfied! The fries were also amazing, and huge portions! We got one large order to share and still had too many! We took our food to eat on the go, and after a long wait, we ate too fast to snap any pics, but plenty of other reviews have pictures! Highly recommend if you've got the time to wait, and if you don't, I recommend making the time or calling ahead! Thank you, Stamps, for a memorable lunch and a nice way to end...
Read moreFood... we can't say say enough about the burgers. We had the Stamps single cheeseburger, and the Stamps single turkey burger. We also had hot wings, sprinkled with lemon pepper. The burgers are now in the top 3 of burgers we've ever had. All I can say about the burger, is just go get one! The wings were good, but not amazing. They were very big and just a good simple wing flavor. The fries the fries the fries... they're fresh cut potatoes sprinkled with lemon pepper, and a small is more than enough to feed 2 people. I could eat the fries everyday.
The service- we were told up front that there would be about a 45 minute wait. There were about 6 people ahead of us, but I guess the trick is to call your order in, because a ton of people who were call ins came and went before we got our food well over an hour later. Most places prioritize the money that's in front of them (in-house customers), instead of money that's on the way (call-ins), and stop taking call-ins until they get the in-house line down. That's the reason the service is only 3 stars.
The atmosohere... this place is in the middle of neighborhood and some of the other patrons seemed sketchy, however, they had armed security inside. Armed security in a hamburger joint makes a statement.
Overall, the burgers are amazing, but not worth the amount of time we had to wait, so they should have a cutoff for the call-in orders when there are paying customers INSIDE. We'd definitely go back, but would have to strongly consider if the wait time is worth it...
Read moreI've heard about Stamp's for a long time and finally got a chance to see what it was all about. When we pulled up at 230pm on a Friday and saw cars lining the streets in all directions I knew the place had to be good. The menu is simple, just a few options to choose from. You order at the counter and wait for your food to be ready. There were a few places to sit inside but the place was packed. They told us it would be about a 25 minute wait on the food so we just waited outside until it was time. Their estimate was close, I think it took right at 30 minutes. While I waited I talked to some of others in line and it sounds like the pro tip from the locals is to call ahead and order. It also sounds like the crowd that day was a little bigger than normal for a Friday but not by much.
The food was absolutely worth the wait and lived up to the hype. Everyone in my group had super burgers with fries and we were all super happy with both. Even though they were very busy the service was great and the employees as well as the other customers were very friendly. One lady told me she had eaten here at least once a week since she was a little girl. It's that kind of place! The only disappointment I have is that it's 2.5 hours from home so I can't go...
