I hate shopping here and almost always leave angered by my terrible experience at Kroger.
It usually takes me 3 minutes to the grab handful of items I need and then 10+ mins to wait in line to CHECK MYSELF OUT at the 3 functioning U-Scans out of the 15+ that are installed, and then I have to wait again for an annoyed looking employee to eventually wander over and check my ID or fix the inevitable U-Scan malfunctions.
And for the record, I don't blame the attendants and other employees who are probably rightfully annoyed, likely being underpaid and having to deal with irritated customers like myself all day. The faults of Kroger are clearly corporate and managerial.
Kroger made $32 BILLION DOLLARS in 2023 (a nearly 5% increase over 2022)! With those kinds of profits the should be fully staffed, with excellent prices, and a wide variety of food options. They should be hand delivering and stocking my pantry and fridge for me if they are making that kind of money, but I'd settle for having enough staff that we shouldn't have to wait in line at all. Why are there lines? There should be so much staff WAITING EAGERLY to check us out! Take $1 Billion of your disgusting profits and hire some more staff and pay them a decent wage!
But, they make that kind of money by making us check ourselves out, keeping their staff minimal and underpaid, and by raising prices and cutting corners wherever possible, and it definitely shows.
-Everything is overpriced, and often I find items mis-priced (always in their favor, of course, pay attention!) That's not even mentioning the criminally deceptive bait-and-switch "digital only" prices on display.
-The quality and variety of meat, dairy, bakery, and produce products is mediocre at best.
-Often brands or products I buy disappear from shelves to be replaced with a Kroger brand or more expensive option.
-Entrances closed off during peak hours. 6pm?! That's when most of us get off work and go shopping, and now we're corralled into one entrance, for what purpose?! Just leave the damn doors open!
-Sometimes items are out of stock for days at time.
At one point the dairy shelves weren't stocked with creamer, but there clearly was creamer in the fridge storage behind. I asked an employee to get me some and was told "that wasn't their job", so I WENT INTO THE FRIDGE MYSELF, GOT SOME CREAMER, AND STOCKED SOME ON THE SHELVES FOR MY FELLOW CUSTOMERS. So now apparently I not only have to check myself out, but I have to stock the shelves myself as well. RIDICULOUS.
The ONLY reasons I shop here are pure convenience, as I live nearby, and because Kroger basically has a monopoly on groceries in Jackson and I have to buy groceries somewhere. (Walmart is even worse.)
Any decent Kroger managers would be ashamed of their terrible stores and would be striving to improve them. Clearly that is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate the following day: Inially I gave one star and am now doubling it to two stars. While the customer service call center gave no sense of satisfaction as to the issue of quality even remotely being looked into, I did go to personally speak with the store manager. The manager's name is Chuck, he listened to what I had to say, he assured me that if I were to have any issues he would be sure to take care of it. While it doesn't change the multiple bad experiences or rotten meat and bad spices I have purchased at local Krogers, it does however, gives an impression that someone in management actually cares. Unlike I said yesterday, another chance at this store isn't unreasonable seeing as how the manager, Chuck took the time to discuss the situation with me.
The following is my initial review: This is the third time picking up spoiled Kroger Brand food since moving to Jackson, TN, three months ago. I suppose I'm spoiled just moving from Florida where it seems as if grocery stores have a higher quality control and are happy to serve there customers. This store had one register open with a long line, but all the self check-outs going. I take this as we don't want to be bothered by you, come in, make your purchases and leave. Back to the spoiled food, calling the Kroger call center, I was on hold for over 5 minutes; apparently many people are having similar issues at Kroger. The customer service representative tried to get me in touch with a products specialist, but the wait was too long so he just gave me fuel points instead. This speaks yet another chapter of the Kroger quality and customer care. Wow, that isn't getting to the problem it's just trying to appease an unhappy customer. I think I am done shopping at Kroger. Seriously, bad meat twice and today bad Kroger brand lemon pepper spice. I really couldn't say anything nice after my...

I recently visited the Kroger on Univ. Pkwy. in Jackson, TN, and overall, my experience was quite positive. The store boasted a nice organization that made my shopping trip efficient and enjoyable.
One of the standout features was the friendly and helpful staff. The employees at this Kroger location were approachable and eager to assist customers. Their positive attitude added a pleasant touch to my overall shopping experience.
However, my enthusiasm was momentarily dampened when I came across a loaf of moldy bread on one of the shelves. It was disappointing to see a product in such condition, but I was pleased with how the situation was handled. I promptly brought it to the attention of a store employee, who took immediate action to address the issue. This incident, while a hiccup in an otherwise smooth experience, highlighted the store's commitment to customer satisfaction and the importance they place on maintaining quality standards.
Despite this minor setback, I would still rate the Kroger on Univ. Pkwy. with four stars. The well-organized layout, friendly employees, and the swift response to the moldy bread incident demonstrate the store's dedication to providing a positive shopping environment. I will continue to shop at this Kroger location, confident that they prioritize customer satisfaction and...
