Hair Cuttery — Local services in Jacksonville

They work commission. Was told a 20 minute wait (I already waited 30 at another shop before learning cut was $40) so I was gonna just get one on post when I went shopping in next day or 2. The desk person claimed she was the only one to do military cut. When I went to leave suddenly they remembered someone else could do them. So basically they wanted me to wait so they could snag a few bucks extra. A Thanksgiving miracle. Anyway, the cut came to $22. I selected the 20% tip (only took 4 minutes after I sat in chair til they finished) since it was quick and easy and the other person tried to pull the wool over my eyes. So tip should have been $4.40. Total of $26.40. Checked my card first of the month when I did bills, and they charged $36. Not sure where the extra $10 bucks came in but I know I won't give them a chance to get even a penny from me again.

15 minutes before closing and they were empty they turned me away saying closed. No time to do a 4 minute military cut?

Next time was couple hours before close, they denied me, said all booked up for appointment. So I went to the other location, when I clicked to make appointment it showed both stores had availability. 2 of the 8 people in that store was available on the site.

So it is hit and miss of they want to cut your hair. Or if they wanna leave early, or don't need the money. And this last time the charge of $36 and not the $26 plus the deception was the final straw I think. I think my wife made an appointment here once and they double book so they cancel her even though the other one not there yet. So I guess they also only want regulars or friends. Update 08/2025.. My initial post was 3 years old. I decided to give this location a shot again since both of my parents go there regularly and are satisfied overall. My stylist was Jessica. She is very cool we had some great laughs. She is VERY meticulous. She makes sure she understands what a customer wants and makes suggestions also. She did an awesome job.

I took my son and myself to get haircuts. We both have raging pandemic hair and needed professionals. I had a pic with me and also what guards I'd used and what I had done "left sideburns long" "tapered back". The lady that cut my hair was actually really cool. We had a great conversation. My hair was still damp when I left so the level of chaos was not noticeable. By the time it dried.. whooo lord. The back of my hair was squared off and cut up high with no blending. My hair is short with a longer tip. The hairline is very uneven with different lengths throughout. Sideburns were cut in points which wasn't what I asked. It is going to take forever to grow this out.. I personally won't be back. On the other hand the lady that cut my sons hair was phenomenal. Exactly what he asked for and he looks sharp. Last time I went here I was getting ready to be engaged and the stylist was so nice and so helpful and helped me choose some color and style and she really hit it out of the park. Now I am getting ready for my wedding I go in there because of the good job they did last time and the stylist was the exact opposite. Didn't give me any idea or choice just kept saying it's my hair I didn't really know the difference between partial highlights and stuff and she didn't even take the time to explain just kept saying it was up to me and I should tell her exactly what I want.

I realize like anything else in the world sometimes you get good service and sometimes bad it just depends on the person. So I give 3 stars with that in mind. However, I will never ever go back to this particular Hair Cuttery for as long as I live. I wish I had walked out after talking to the stylist.
