Sushi Zen — Restaurant in Jacksonville

I’m not one to post a negative review but I felt like this was necessary. Please read the whole thing. This place was incredibly disappointing. We read the other reviews that ALL had 5 stars. We thought that was kind of suspicious but a friend had also recommended this place so we decided to go anyway. First off, the service wasn’t very good. We waited a very long time to order. They didn’t use a notepad or anything and they ended up forgetting my boyfriends gyoza that he ordered.

Once we got the food, the clear soup was very oily and had barely any scallions or toppings in it. It tasted like water until I added some soy sauce to give it some flavor. Then my hibachi came. The chicken was very slimy and the shrimp wasn’t much better. Both were sitting in a huge puddle of oil. Not just the typical little bit of juice/sauce that hibachi meals typically have. Everything, including the rice, was covered in black pepper. Which we also thought was bizarre. Lastly, the noodles that came with my meal were also very plain. They just tasted like oil and butter. Everything was just coated in oil and flavorless.

PLEASE be aware before going to this place that the 5 star reviews are 100% fake. This place is not as great as they tried to make it out to be. Maybe it’s because it’s new but I’ve definitely had much better. We most likely won’t...

I decided to do takeout. I ordered Spicy Crunchy Tuna roll, Florida roll (deep fried roll), 2x American Dream roll, Chicken Teriyaki with side of salad, miso soup and Noodles(that an upcharge of $3.00 which I don’t personally mind) Total cost was $65.27 My first impression is the staff were all friendly when I entered. I got my food perfectly in time. The food came out hot & fresh. The chicken teriyaki was tender and easy to bite. Noodles had a garlic butter pepper taste which was different but good. Miso soup was delicious. Salad had fresh iceberg lettuce, slice tomato, thinly slice carrots with ginger dressing on the side (not included in my photos because I ate it ) Sushi was fresh and delicious. I love all it. Definitely would order again...

I'm a sushi lover and I always like trying new places. I was curious about trying this restaurant because of the high rating on Google, I mean 4.8?? Is it that good? I just recently found out that they do the sushi rolls lunch special, 14.50 for 3. So, I said myself: ok, I need to go! Lol Sushi was good, very flavored and fresh. The miso soup tasted really good. To have a wider opinion of this restaurant I should try something from the kitchen as well, but for now, I will say that the high reviews are deserved. The waitress was nice and attentive.
