When you drive into Landmark Hospital in Joplin, you will see a sign that says "Heroes Work Here". I am here to tell you, HEROES REALLY DO WORK HERE! My son was transferred to Landmark from the ICU at Freeman two weeks after sustaining a severe head injury. Specifically, TBI with DAI.
He was completely non-verbal and semi-alert when he was transferred on a Thursday afternoon. He had random movements, but nothing purposeful. On Friday they informed me due to COVID, they were preparing to close the facility to visitors. I was completely devastated!
He remained in Landmark for exactly 4 weeks. During that time, the staff was AMAZING! I hesitate to name specific people, because I do not want to leave anyone out. But I have to mention a few people, please forgive me if I leave anyone out or spell your names wrong. I did not see your name badges, just your masked faces, but I am forever grateful for the care and kindness you gave my son and my family.
Stevie ... was a godsend! I knew when she was there my son was getting far more than nursing care! In fact, on his birthday, she was not even his nurse, but she helped facilitate a window visit! Courtney took the time to really talk to my son, and share with me the little things and conversation. Trinity was an angel ... messaging me about what was going on. In the absence of family and friends, I knew these ladies were providing more than nursing care for my son. Once we got in to a routine, I never knew when I was going to get a Facetime call. Sierra the speech therapist was also wonderful! She would Facetime me to share the progress and new accomplishments my son was achieving. Cody took care of his wound, and took the time to keep me up to date and let me see what was going on. Dr. Gupta took excellent care and really listened to my concerns.
My son received EXCELLENT care, down to his transfer. Thank you to Rhonda for working so hard to get him transferred to a great facility! It got a little crazy there at the end, but he continued to get great care until he was wheeled out the door!
When I finally got to see him (after a month) I am just going to say ... I AM IN AWE of my son! They took great care of him and fully prepared him for physical rehab. When he was transferred to Landmark my biggest fear was he would not make the criteria for a rehab facility. Now here he is, making gains like crazy! None of this would be possible without the great care he received from Landmark LTAC!
THERE ARE NO WORDS TO EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE!
So yes, HEROES REALLY...
Read moreMy mom stayed for 11 days, and I'm so thankful for the care they provided for her. I was concerned at first, just because of how many issues she has going on. Besides needing physical therapy, she also has diabetes and had a small surgery on her leg that I hoped would be addressed, and they were. On the first day, I was able to talk to some of her nurses, the doctor, and the lady who takes care of insurance. I had questions, and everyone was able to answer them.
We were able to leave drawings from my kids up in her room for motivation, along with lots of flowers, which I thought was really nice. They allowed visitors every day (and she had many), and every time I came to visit, I was always happy to see how well they treated her, not just by helping her, but by asking what she needed when they came in for a specific task, or even just randomly stopping in to check on her.
They allowed visitors to take her outside in her wheelchair, and we were able to go to a common area where I saw nurses and physical therapists working with other patients in the same way, a lot of them having conversations with people or showing the patience to sit with those who couldn’t communicate well. As someone who deeply loves my mom, I can say they treated her extremely well here.
One person who stood out the most to me was a long-haired brunette physical therapist who spoke a little bit of Spanish. While all the nurses were great, I felt that she went above and beyond, gently pushing my mom to meet her goals, but also understanding when she couldn’t. She waited for me to get there so I could see some of my mom’s progress, jotted down notes about questions we had, and got us the answers the very next day.
I hope everyone knows how appreciated their kindness is. My mom didn’t have a single complaint about a...
Read moreI wouldn't take my dog to Landmark. I had to have my mom forcibly removed from the facility after they tried to kill her from neglect. 1. I called and begged the respiratory therapist at 11pm to save her life after waiting all day for the Pulmonologist to call (which they didn't). Thank god for the respiratory therapist. He saved her life. I begged him to give her a treatment that her primary care recommended. Where was the Pulmonologist? Why didn't they recommend that treatment? I'm not in health care and shouldn't have to offer suggestions for treatment ! 2. She would call me repeatedly telling me she couldn't breathe. I would call the front desk and it would take them over 40 minutes to make it to her room. During our weekly staff/family call the staff told me she was calling me for attention. Turns our her call button didn't work for eight days. Could you imagine gasping for air and no one coming to your aid? 3. The first night my mom was in the facility, her assigned nurse informed me they don't have the time to give me information about her status. That is 100% unacceptable! 4. I begged to have her transferred. They had the nerve to call and try to convince me to keep her there after they let her sit in respiratory failure for eight days. The staff indicated they would help facilitate the transfer but they just blew me off. At that point, my family and I decided to call an ambulance and have her forcibly removed and sent to St. Francis in Tulsa. They are a joke. Unless you're trying to 86 your mother in law, I would stay away at all costs. Never trust your love one's care to...
