VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WESTERN AUTO HAS LOST A LONG TIME SHOP LOCAL PAYING CUSTOMER. We made and paid for a deal with W.A for a major purchase, via a salesmen, a store manager and a confirmation call to another unseen upper level store manager that included a delivery and haul away the next day. We went home and moved the house around in expectation of their delivery only to be told as they we about to deliver that they had made a mistake and that they now needed to charge an additional $70.00 if I wanted to receive my appliance. Needless to say I was not happy especially after all the effort we had put out including tearing our house apart (not easy as I am disabled). But in an effort to get our purchase I made an offer to split the difference of their mistake and pay half which I felt was fair since we paid full price (not a sale price) to begin with and now would equal out that W.A only be giving a 10% discount overall. Unfortunately our offer was declined by general manager John Weedman so we had them take the appliance back to the store and credit my credit. I hope the loss of a 25 year customer and the bad advertising by word of mouth is worth it. I also thinks it's funny that I just heard your commercial on the radio thanking Juneau for shopping local but with what we just experienced it is no...
Read moreJust about every time I go into Western Auto I discover they carry something I didn't know they carry. Like, wait. Western Auto carries appliances? And there is a very decent if small selection of appliances. Wait... I can get a mouse for my laptop here? Holy smokes! I wish I'd known about their science kits for kids before Christmas! And that's just the bottom floor. There's a whole floor above of marine equipment and sporting goods that you could just wander around in for hours. Their prices are decent for Alaska. Service is always very good- you never have to look long for someone to help you find something. So now if I'm on my way to Fred's or Home Depot for some household good, I check in at Western first, just to see. They don't always have what I need, (no SAD lamps!) but very often they do, and a decent or sometimes better price, probably a higher quality version, and with much better service. I would rather give...
Read moreIn a small community like Juneau, there are limited options. Western Auto is one of those limited options. My three star rating isn't negative, it's average, it's good enough. Good enough might be the best way to describe Western Auto. As strengths, there is a fair selection of: gardening, work or hunting/fishing related apparel, electronics, hardware (fasteners etc), and housewares in one spot without the mega mart experience or low quality mega mart items. They might have the best selection of fishing tackle and marine hardware. I often find myself there because I need two or three different items and I don't want to make two or three stops to specialty places or spend several hours on my Saturday shopping around to save $5...
