Manager is extremely unprofessional, and LADIES BEWARE! I was hopeful when the store opened, but upon learning that they are owned by the same people who have the grocery store in downtown Kalamazoo, the Park Street market, It was dampened somewhat. The meat I bought there on their opening week looked quite nice, but when i opened the package at home I was greeted with about 1/8-1/4 cup of red liquid. It was dye. They dye their steak, at least. So, since their prices weren't really that great, I just continued to shop at my regular grocery store except when I had doctor's appointments, and needed to pick up milk, or something like that. That is how this occasion began. I was looking for chocolate caramels, and The store did not have any. I had picked up a bag of regular caramels, trying to decide if i wanted to substitute in the recipe. I decided not to, so there was no reason to stay in the store. I replaced the caramel where it belonged, and headed for the door, pausing to get my umbrella out. As I opened it, I heard "Oh!" from behind me. I turned to look, and saw the manager standing behind me in the rain. I nodded, and started walking to the family dollar across the street, to see if they had riesens (chocolate caramels). He stopped me, asking me what i was doing. I told him i was looking for candy. After a couple of minutes of me trying to walk away, and him continually stopping me with silly questions, like "where are you going?", "What are you doing after that?" and "what else are you doing?" I finally asked him if he thought i was stealing. He asked why i would think that(duh) so i told him. He told me that I was wrong to think that, and that he actually came out there to flirt with me! now this made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable, and I contemplated calling his management, but i do not know if it would even do any good, so i wanted to make sure the community knew that this happened at this store, with their main manager. Not only did he accost me like i was a thief, but when i asked him if that was what he thought, he made the matter worse by LYING, with a bad lie at that, and doing so in such a way as to make me so uncomfortable I never want to walk into that store again. And if he WAS following me out there to flirt with me, what sort of a manager would DO such a thing to a customer? it is extremely scary! what if it had been night time? Either he is scaring customers and making them uncomfortable because he does not want them in his store (not only unprofessional, but not smart for business) or he really was trying to flirt, and if he would go that far during the day, how far would he have gone at night when the parking...
Read moreIt is hit or miss for us. We were looking for a good priced meat selection closer to us than Buchanan and happened upon Midtown Fresh. Upon walking in the store it was great. Amazing produce display, wonderful bakery and deli selections and the meat quality and price was phenomenal. Then comes the bad part. The checkout process. We went to check out and the man at the customer service counter who watches everyone as they are checking out starts dropping hints to the cashier about large bulk items that we had under the cart that we already had ones sitting on the conveyer belt for the quantity. He then comes over and "makes sure you get rang up for the right bundle." We spent almost $500 stocking our fridge and deep freezer in our new house. My wife commented on how she doesn't like being treated like we are going to steal something and the lady by the carts was super friendly and apologized and asked us to give them another shot. Reluctantly we tried them again. Guess what? Same exact occurrence. And this time he went as far as taking the items out of the cart and putting them on the belt to ensure nothing was left around the box for the meat bundle we had in our cart. This has happened on 4 separate occasions and we always spend at least $200 a trip. Someone who takes the time to enter their cell phone number for the rewards and puts in their email for mailing list is not very likely to try to steal from you. Moral of the story is they have an amazing stock as far as the grocery side and for the price is worth it as long as you don't mind being treated like a criminal every time you try to pay...
Read moreThis is a wonderful neighborhood market with high quality packaged food products as well as delicious high quality fresh foods in the deli, produce, and bakery sections. They also have an in-store Cafe for your immediate coffee and hot chocolate needs. They have a soup and salad area which features freshly prepared products and the soups are made in-house. My personal favorite is the clam chowder with the melt in your mouth potato chunks and perfectly cooked clam pieces. Fresh sushi, sandwiches, variety salads (like pasta, veggie, etc), lasagna, chicken, deserts and more. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and the management is off the chain in the respect they exhibit towards guests and employees. I can't say enough about this store. I always have an incredible experience here. Also, they will be open Thanksgiving 2020...
