I'm self employed and work from home. If it wasn't for 4th Coast, I'd go nuts. I'm so glad to leave home and come here to work. It costs me about $2.50 a day to work here and that's with the tip. The neighborhood is located at the heart of Kalamazoo. The vibe is cool. The people are friendly.

Here's the straight scoop about why it works for me, and why it might work for you.

-they're open 24/7. I'm here right now writing this review at 11:22 p.m. It's packed. Except for one seat that had my name on it. And I'm charging my phone while I write this.

-the environment is comfortable. Nick just left. He's a poet. We smoked and talked poetry before I got down to work. Good people.

-the music the baristas play is good music. I never know the name of the music, but when I ask they tell me, and I always enjoy it.

-the coffee is great. the coffee drinks good too. I'm surprised by their consistency. Best in Kalamazoo.

-prices are best in town for the quality. Like I said, $1.60 for a small coffee and with a dollar tip, I can work here all day. Way cheaper than the competition.

-it's conveniently located along on Westnedge nearby Martinis and Bagel Beanery and Crowes Nest (located upstairs). I can ride my bike.

All in all, it's perfect. A great place to be creative. Great place to get work done.

Not a great place to have phone meetings. It can get loud with the crowd and the music playing over the speakers. It is a good place for face to face meetings.

I really like...

Now I probably spent and hour or so reading the past reviews. Now I have been in forth coast for 10 or 15 mins, and I can already discredit half of the negative reviews. Now yes I can agree that curtain songs that are played over the speakers can be a little off putting, if u are sitting alone pondering life or mabey studying. I am 18 and just like every other person between 16 and 20 ish likes music a little louder than........ The average adult. I can now say without a doubt I will most definitely be back to Forth Coast Cafe and Bakery. Because if we are all being honest the voffec is great, the music is just fine, and the baristas are kind and friendly despite working in the middle of the night. Thanks forth coast for a fun and friendly Cafe experience. You will definitely...

It had been about a year since my last visit and had a nice experience. Yesterday, however, things took a turn for the worse. I walked in and asked for a coffee and experienced the worst customer service of my entire life. First I wasn't greeted, never obtained eye contact from the 4th coast worker, was interrupted when explaining what I was wanting to order, and was curtly informed that they "do not have blended drinks" as if I had offended her by asking. She proceeded to say while I was still at the counter (and hadn't ordered yet) that "I'm off in twenty minutes and need to take care of the tip jar" as she dumped it out in front of me and started counting it. I excused myself and left without purchasing anything and never...

Stopped in for coffee and was pleasantly surprised to find not only a great shop, but also a space that supports local art. The barista, Skai, is both a talented artist and a true professional. She shared how much she enjoys working here and even pointed me toward other creative spaces for artists to learn and grow. Her salted caramel latte was fantastic! The shop itself has recently been remodeled while I can’t compare it to before, I can say the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The bathrooms are clean, the vibe is positive, and the overall experience was wonderful. Love seeing a place that blends coffee, community, and creativity. I’ll definitely be back. ☕️🎨🖼️

Lots of table & bar seating, free wifi, wonderful art (current installation by Jamie Whitledge is amazing) and interesting blends, including the "Cosmic Cocoa" (a golden milk drink with cocoa powder) & "Witches Brew" (pictured here), a blend of chai & cider. Lots of pastry options & the restaurant upstairs, Crow's Nest, is happy to bring your order downstairs. The only negative, for me, is the "alternative milk" options were really pricey ($1 for oat milk or almond milk).

They have cafe au lait here. Not the same as NOLA though. I think the milk was not hot enough. Cookie and other baked goods look very good. I didn't know they bake everything in house. Except the cookies I think. First time I try Vegan Zucchini Bread. Wow. It is moist and pretty much like a cinnamon pound cake. I assume it is healthier than regular bread too. Very nice and cozy. Staff is friendly and they have free wifi. Nice place to take a break and enjoy some coffee.
