Confections with Convictions was a highlight of our Michigan experience. Dale scheduled a tour and learning experience for my family of six. From the moment we walked in, Dale exuded warmth and pride in this amazing shop that he has created with love. He immediately offered all of us a choice of truffle and they were just decadent. He even was knowledgeable about allergies and steered our decisions safely. Dale then sat with us to explain the chocolate making process and gave us the chance to taste everything from the cacao nibs to the dark, milk, and white chocolate. Then, he toured us through his lovely facility, introduced us to his staff, and shared the magic of chocolate making. Dressed in hairnets and aprons we then made chocolate bark. The kids got to select their mix-ins (fruits, nuts, salt) and then made their own bark. Dale led us through the process with such kindness. We could not have asked for a better experience and this will forever be a highlight of our trip. This is my favorite place! :) They have so many delicious chocolate truffles, caramels, and more to choose from. When you purchase a box you pick what you'd like added and they can draw you a map to identify which are which - I recommend keeping your map and using it to keep track of which flavors you've tried already, you'll want to try them all! I enjoy picking flavors that create a theme (eg. I've picked Michigan-specific flavors as a gift for friends in Japan) and the staff are always so helpful offering suggestions to complete the box! Their barks are also a great gift or treat for yourself. I've always enjoyed my interactions with the staff whenever I visit because the shop's atmosphere is so welcoming. I've also ordered chocolate online - it was very easy, arrived fast and everything tasted great! My partner and I recently gave peach white chocolate caramels as wedding favors and everyone was so curious about the flavor! I love this place not only for the chocolate (decadent, delicious, and surprising), but also because it is fun being around someone who loves what he's doing and does it with passion. It's easy to get into an informative conversation on chocolate, truffles, candies, flavor combinations, etc. . . If you're lucky, you'll meet Dale's mother who can often be found lending a supportive and helping hand. You can feel good about your purchases, as Dale uses organically grown, Fair Trade, & locally sourced, ingredients whenever possible. Did I mention my favorite is the dark chocolate, orange, and cardamom, but Dale always pushes me to try something "outside my comfort zone." I'm never disappointed (although the orange is still my favorite).
