I wanted to share my experience because I think this is a major flaw with these rescue groups. I will try to make my story as short as possible. I found a dog at Cobb county animal shelter who I absolutely fell in love with. It was obvious to me she had kennel cough. Unfortunately, I live at home with my mom and had to leave the dog that day (a Sunday) and wait until their next open day on Tuesday to get her so that I could discuss with my mom. I left at closing on Sunday and was there Tuesday in line at opening. I donât really agree with rescue groups going on the day the shelter is closed for the reason of my specific situation, but I get why they do it. I show up Tuesday and wait in line to get in with a nice new collar and leash and lots of toys and treats in the car. I even had an engraved tag with the name âNala.â I cant explain how excited I was. Nala was not there. I sobbed for hours in the parking lot while the shelter refused to tell me what happened to her. I believed she had been put down. My boyfriend and I ended up going on a wild goose chase. I called literally every rescue group in Georgia. Talked to Mostly Mutts twice and was told both times there was no dog like I described. We went to three rescue groups to look anyways and even once at mostly mutts, it took a great deal to figure out she was there. We werenât allowed to see her. I explained my situation. The woman told me I had to fill out an application but basically told me it was a formality and that the dog could go home with me in 2 weeks. Later on I get a call and they explain why I canât get the dog: 1 my moms dog hasnât been to the vet lately. In my mind that is no representation of how I will care for my dog or what a loving home I will provide. I will be moving out this year on top of that. 2 Iâm a college student planning on going to medical school. Apparently having any other aspirations besides being a dog mom is frowned upon. 3 I donât have a job. Frankly mostly mutts has no idea about my financial situation and what I can and canât provide. I spoke to Mostly Mutts multiple times after that, literally begging for this dog, sent pictures of all the things I had already bought for her, trying to explain my love for this animal and how much I wanted to give her a home. She deserves that much after all sheâs been through. Kept getting a no. Got a âyou can come volunteer since you seem so caring about dogsâ. Wow. I have since continually checked up on Nala aka Eloise. She is completely healthy (one thing they said was that she MAY end up having health issues that I apparently canât financially deal with). And guess what? 3.5 months later she is still homeless. To me, they robbed that dog of a home. Personally, I think the standards of mostly mutts needs to be re-evaluated. These dogs are HOMELESS. you have LOVING people desperately trying to give these dogs a home and you turn them away. How on earth does that make sense??? I since adopted a dog from Forsyth county animal hospital. Guess who has been to the vet once a month since adoption? My dog. Guess who was abused and terrified and now thriving with me? My dog. Guess who get walks daily and goes to the dog park weekly? My dog. Guess who Iâve dropped over $1000 on since adoption for random treats, toys, bandanas, grooming, vet appointments? My dog. Guess who sleeps snuggled up under my covers with me every night? My dog. Guess who is the most spoiled and loved dog in the world? My dog. And guess who is still sitting in a shelter homeless? Nala aka Eloise. Mostly mutts, re-evaluate. Look at why you are doing what you do. I thank you for the amazing work you do daily. But please, reevaluate the TRUE meaning of your work. LOVING HOMES. Not rich, perfect...
Read moreDon't get me wrong, I love animals and what these people do is amazing, but I have a story thats important to anyone looking for a furbaby from here. My fiancĂŠ and I loved their system when we were searching for a new baby, You have to get background checked, as well as you meet a cat counselor. I thought this was awesome so this ensures the baby goes to a good home. We filled out our application and the sweet lady who helped us, she told us we were the first to apply for Crimini. We fell deeply in love and spent hours playing and learning Criminiâs personality, then we had to leave close to closing time. The next morning after our daily duties, my fiance and I went back to see him again. We were so elated to see our application in process, yet when we asked about it- It wasn't us. Someone who came that morning before us met with someone who accepted their application immediately as they were there, not paying attention to the other applicant before them. If you are looking for a baby, ensure the counselor is there or that they look over your application immediately. Donât have your heart broken, as mine is. I hope Crimini went to a good family. I think about him daily.
to your response- it is the fact someone told me we were creminiâs first people to even look at him and then the next day this accepted applicant came back and chose him? Okay, yes, their application's was processed before, yet they didnât have an application for him specifically AND you didnât bother to check who else was wanting him before saying yes? You could have told the applicant âoh Im sorry someone is ahead of you for cremini, but we have other options availableâ You say âwe dont hold animalsâ then why tell me I was the first person to apply for him- giving me false hope? Then proceeding to say âthere are more optionsâ AFTER i spent HOURS until close with him. Am I just supposed to move on from that and pick another cat? Thats like telling a mom to move on from falling in love with an adopted child and âjust pick anotherâ. I was there for hours with him and these people came in got one glance and all was well, leaving those who care more about babies heartbroken. And then when I came back that next morning you all watched my partner and I sob and then said âwe have more optionsâ Not even an apology or anything. Youâre excuse is âmore optionsâ. Adopting a cat isnât simply a store, youâre adopting a life long friend, a companion. I simply wanted a deep apology rooted in how you made us feel, but instead I am told âmisinformationâ. I still think about him daily. Maybe your team should recheck your policy. You should 100% hold animals for people who you make wait and then give away the animals they fell in love with. Or make everyone cat counselor ready, so it does not happen again. I happened to be unlucky not having the cat counselor there the day I went, but those lucky souls who got cremini happened to be luckier. You do not understand the love we...

This location does first up. Doesn't matter if you are the 1st applicant for the dog or not. If someone else had an application for a small, medium or large dog 6 months ago they get 1st priority over you.
I have been working for over a month to get this dog that was picked up from the city shelter. I contacted mostly mutts and was asking about him way before they even knew they had him.
I was told he wouldn't be available to adopt for 2 weeks. I waited two weeks and reached back out to them. They told me I have to do a application which I did. I waited another week.
Mostly mutts posted the dog for adoption and then gave him to another couple. We were not disqualified from adopting him. I was heartbroken.
I lost out on Bradshaw because another family, that never knew he existed or knew anything about him that already had a dog, was waiting for a small dog. I'm a disabled veteran who is at home and had been who had to jump through major hoops to find him again.
They did offer to keep me on a list for when they may get another small dog in.
I don't want just a small dog, I wanted the one I had been trying to get for over a month now that they they picked up from the shelter, that I tried to get while there and didn't get because the shelter didn't read their emails. I was lead on by mostly mutts the whole time as I only found out about their policy when they called me about the dog after they posted him.
I was under the impression since I contacted them so early that there would have been no issues getting him since he wasn't even in their system yet and I explained the circumstances.
I'm just...
