We went for lunch which is a very limited menu so maybe dinner is better. You come in the rear door where the parking is and it is set up with a very narrow walkway to get to the tables. A man and his child were blocking the way and did not pick up on the signal to step aside.
We were seated in the middle of the restaurant. This is an old house converted to a restaurant. So every time someone walked by the whole floor shook. It was fairly busy for lunch but not a lot of tables in this small place so should never be too overwhelming for servers. We sat around for about 10 mins before being offered a beverage. When she did ask, we told her we were also ready to order. We ordered the pad thai and pad bai ka-prow. On the menu, pad thai says is consists of chicken, shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts and scallions. What was in it ended up being the noodles with chicken and scallions. No shrimp, tofu or bean sprouts. However, my guy said it was good. My pad bai ka-prow was as described on the menu but said your choice of meat. I don't eat meat and since I was not asked, assumed it would not have any. (The menu did say vegetarian friendly and also said you could choose your level of heat--none of this was asked)
Oh yeah, and when my food arrived, I had no utensils. Like it was an afterthought to give someone a fork.
When it arrived it had lots of chicken in it. I mentioned this to the server and I guess she did not understand. So I just placed the chicken to the side as I ate it. It was good but I pulled one hair out of my mouth while eating and another was found in the mix. I didn't say anything thinking it might be my own hair but looked awfully dark for my light reddish hair.
My guy never was offered a refill of his very watery unsweetened tea. We waited around to ask for a to go container so I could take the chicken home to my pets but gave up because no one ever asked us how our meal was or if we needed anything.
We finally got up and went to the register without a bill. That way we were able to pay for our meal.
One of the few times no tip was left due to the poor service. No server basic skills were witnessed.
So, all in all, the food has flavor but who knows how sanitary. I see all the rave reviews so maybe just a bad day but no real excuse for the lack of basic table...
Read moreHow often do you start out on one adventure only to have it turn into something else entirely? Van and I headed out yesterday evening in Boomer to go see Lights of Joy in Kennesaw and decided to grab dinner beforehand. I mapped our destination and looked at nearby restaurants and their ratings to pick a spot. Bangkok Cabin had a solid 4.6 Google Rating with great reviews and appeared to be locally owned and operated so off we went. Bangkok Cabin parking lot was noticeably full but we found a spot near the door and parked. As we were exiting the car, a lady said are you here to eat and we replied yes. She apologized and said the restaurant was closed for a private party. I replied, clearly disappointed, that we were excited to try them because we noticed the great reviews. The lady, who we now know as Nang (part-owner and chef) told us that we must stay and join the party. Anyone who knows Van would assume we left, anyone who knows me, knows we stayed! What an incredible evening! We met new friends (Jim and Cookie, Suwan and Nang), ate authentic Thai food (Khao Man Gai-so good) prepared by this beautiful family, and were culturally enriched. Totally blown away by this family's generosity, hospitality, and kindness. I now know why Thailand is often referred to as the Land of Smiles. As far as we are concerned, Bangkok Cabin is the only Thai restaurant that exists and we will gladly support...
Read moreThe food is great, no doubt about it. They have a beautiful outside balcony and inside is like dinning at someone's house. The staff is also very attentive and on point with every dish. But now and again, for us it's been more often than not, you get a side of entertainment... yet we keep going back!
The logistics let's you experience everything. Sound travels really well at the cabin. You will hear everything despite people keeping low voices. The first time there was birthday drama. The second time the staff were in constant disagrement but when they came to the table they were most pleasant. On a separate occasion we got to hear all about being a medical student doing their ER rotation while the mom kept whispering not to discuss gory stuff at a restaurant. At the end I wanted to know which hospital was it so I could avoid it.
I know all this sounds awful but that's how much I like their food or maybe I have seen too much to let such things keep me from delicious food. Take out is an option. The first few times I told my husband "we're never going back" followed by a couple of "let's only do take out". This last time we wondered what would happen today and I think that's how I see it. It's like a TV show. Definitely a restaurant where you will find yourself eating yummy authentic food and then sometimes you will also be inside the scene of some (mild)...
