It seems that the Lake Stevens Costco has recently decided all of it's members are potential crooks. That's the only explanation for the new policies of: (1) making you show ID if your Costco card doesn't have your picture on it (mine doesn't and guess what - this Costco can't print you another card on site); (2) no longer allowing you to go in through the exit door if you're just going to the pharmacy - you now have to go around through the member entrance and truck through the store to get to prescriptions.
I can almost understand #1, as there are probably instances of people using someone else's card. However, why is this now suddenly a problem when they've been hugely successful for decades without assuming everyone is a potential thief?
#2 is simply offensive because YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BE A COSTCO MEMBER TO USE THE PHARMACY! So why make you go through the members entrance? When I asked an employee about this, I was told it was for the customer count. Really? Every transaction records the member number, so that customer is counted, and every pharmacy transaction that doesn't have a member number counts that as a non-member customer. The "customer count" explanation is clearly false and the actual reason is, in my opinion, that they now consider everyone coming in to be a potential crook.
Worse yet, when I tried to today to walk in the entrance, as I always do to get a prescription, (and I even had my member card out), I was rudely stopped and here is how I was questioned "Where are you going?" I showed my Costco card, thinking that's why I was stopped, but no, I was told - not asked, but told - that I had to go out and around to the members entrance. Bear in mind that when I was stopped it wasn't with something like "May I ask where you're headed to", which would have been the polite way to greet me. Nope, it was with a "Where are you going?", accompanied by a glare. When I asked when that policy started I was told "Two weeks ago". No apology and she simply then turned to the next member who was exiting.
I've been a Costco member for over 35 years and an executive member for 25 years. Costco has always treated it's members with respect...until now.
I realize this is probably a boneheaded corporate decision, not one made just by the Lake Stevens Costco, but they could at least implement it with politeness and respect. At our next membership renewal, we will probably give up our executive membership and just go with the basic membership, as a result of Costco's new found disdain for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been shopping at Costco for a very long time, this review is more about Costco in general not just Lake Stevens. Back in the day Costco used to be about quality products, yes buying bulk saves money but you could always count on getting a high quality product. These days Iām not sure we save much money and the quality on most products are not good at all and is you start looking at where their products come from itās mainly from China. I know itās hard to not get anything from there but I was shocked to see how much food products are from China. Yes itās cheaper but they have almost no regulations so you donāt know what kind of low level poison you are ingesting. Another thing is that I used to go to Costco almost weekly because the produce was so good, Iām not sure if itās because ok Stevens is not as busy as other locations but the produce has been sub standard for a long time now. I get much better quality at the grocery store and because Iām not throwing a bunch away I am saving by not buying from Costco anymore. Lastly you have always had to show your card at checkout and someone checks youāre product as you leave. My last visit was a tough one, I had to wait to get in because they were checking cards, had to wait to check out now there is a long line to get out because they are checking every single item, I snapped at the gal checking products and grabbed by receipt from her which was rude and wrong on on my part so I apologize for that. I called and talked to the manager and apologized and asked why they they were checking every item instead of a quick scan.he pretty much blamed it on the checkers and it helps them save on shrink. Well it is actually the checkers instead of making your customers feel like criminals and making us stand in line to get out of there why donāt you install cameras and watch the check out process. It would save us all a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been a Costco member for many years and in a couple of states and was so excited when this location opened close to home.. Iām really starting to dislike Costco based on the Lake Stevens warehouse. The front end staff have been really rude the last few times Iāve gone in. I was trying to look at a product on an endcap near where a line was formed for the self checkout and the employee who I guess decided she was the line warden snapped at me about their being a line. Chill out, I was trying to look at the product youāre body blocking, not cut.. when I did check out I ended up in her self checkout line where she rudely was like I need to see your membership card before she would let me go to a checkout kiosk. When I got to the checkout I had 4 items and a lady with a hand scanner basically pushed me out of the way and scanned everything for me. Guess itās not self checkout then. This location treats its customers like criminals more and more every time I go in. I understand costco wants to cut down on membership fraud but how many times do they need to see my card? They want it at the door, the want it before I can check out and then I have to scan it to check out. They donāt even make sure itās your card, so Iām not sure what fraud they think theyāre preventing. A few weekends ago I had issue at the self checkout when I tried to pay, hit the button for help, the light went on and the girl working the kiosks stood about 50 feet away from me and just stared at me for like a minute before finally coming over and helping. It also annoys me that this is the only costco Iāve gone to where in the normal checkout lines they donāt immediately ask if you want a box, and when you do ask they just toss it in your cart so you can pack it yourself at your car. Every other location Iāve been to will pack the...
