Rocky Mountain Biking — Local services in Lakewood

Last month my adult son and I were visiting Denver. I was the first time I’d been back since moving to Washington State from Denver 25 years ago. My son had flown in from Sweden where he now works and lives. As we requested, Jessica delivered our bikes to the Waterton Canyon trailhead, supplied us with snacks, & water, adjusted our seat height and explained how to use the on-the-fly up/down seat adjustment. This was an extremely convenient and simple way for an out-of-towner to rent bikes. It allowed me to avoid cramming two adult-sized mountain bikes into the back of our Mitsubishi Rental SUV, which seemed like a bad idea. We had a great time mountain biking up trails I’d ridden many times a quarter of a century ago when, at that time in my life, I was racing mountain bikes. Alas I am now 70 and, on the way back down at a very slow speed, I overestimated my abilities on a stretch of trail. That trail had eroded away on one side a bit and the new growth of vegetation left less room for “cheating” to the other side. This was strictly “operator error”, the excellent bikes we’d rented worked perfectly. I ended up injured and had to walk out the last few miles. It turned out Jessica had ridden all the way up the canyon to greet us and helped in every way possible once she rendezvoused with us. My son and I felt Jessica / Rocky Mountain Biking went above and beyond. We are grateful to Jessica and Rocky Mountain biking and certainly would use them again if we end up in the Denver area. We had a fantastic time working with Jessica and Chris. Leading up to our rental day, communication was great and Jessica was incredibly helpful matching our abilities and biking background with Denver local trails.

The day of the ride, Jessica and Chris were waiting for us in the Staunton State Park Visitor's Center, and we spent 30ish minutes making sure our two bikes were properly fitted to each of us. Their process was very thorough- taking our weight into account to adjust the front and rear suspension, watching us pedal around the parking lot, and even installing SPD pedals for me. They also equipped us with a spare tube for my tire, mini bike pump, a bottle of water, and a snack. Before we left, we shared our trail plan for the day, and Jessica's incredible depth of knowledge gave us the insider tips and let us know what to expect and special spots we should stop at that we hadn't known about.

Chris stayed with us for a little bit at the beginning of the trail, offering us tips to adjust our breathing for the elevation (we're coming from Michigan) and what to expect on the trail.

At the end of the day, we'd considered the whole experience to be wholly worthwhile. The only drawback is that since we had less time than we'd have liked to adapt to Denver elevation, this seemed like the first time we'd seriously considered ebikes. Chris and Jessica are amazing! They were referred to me by a local bike shop (always a good thing). I contacted Jessica last minute after another company had to cancel due to a positive COVID19 test. I spent about 15-20 minutes on the phone with Jessica going over what I was looking for. I am an intermediate + rider, I had brought all my gear and was just looking for a nice bike and a guide to show me around so that I could get the most out of my time. Chris followed up with a text shortly after and confirmed that they would be able to help me out. The next day we spoke and he went over about 1/2 dozen trails that he thought I would like and we ended up on Lair O’ The Bear. This trail was great, it had a little bit of everything: tough technical climbs and short rocky down hills with a good bit of flow. While out on the trail, Chris gave me pointers on line choice and riding technique. At the end of the day this was definitely one of my favorite experiences while in Colorado and it was all thanks to Jessica & Chris!
