I had to lose my marriage, my job, and my home to substance abuse before admitting that residential treatment might be an option for me. Design for Change counselors and staff cared for me, even in the worst depths of detoxing and despair, and today I am all the better for it.
At the bottom point of my addiction, I did not believe that anyone or anything could stop or reverse my drug use, and agreed to go to residential treatment at Design For Change only to get some peace and quiet from my family before I lost them as well. Design for Change counselors and staff have experience treating unrepentant addicts like me. They illustrated many methods and frameworks for achieving sobriety and modeled strong men and women who are in and have stayed in recovery. They did for me what I did not believe I could do or simply could not physically do for myself, until the day that I found I could work on myself with purpose again.
I had allowed drugs to enslave me, to change me for the worse, over the five years that I used them. In residential and outpatient treatment at DFC, I was amazed to discover that there are tools I can use to change myself for the better. Today, I am able to become my best self—sometimes on my own, sometimes with the advice and encouragement of friends and family I thought I’d lost forever. A few parts of my old life would be poison to my life in recovery and are best left in the past, but I’m heartened at just how much of my old self I’ve been able to recover and even improve upon.
All the counselors and staff at DFC were outstanding, but I would like to publicly thank Tamisha, David, Rudy and Jaime. For these people, addiction treatment isn’t a job; it’s a calling, and their personal efforts in my case were essential and instrumental.
I could not have gotten to where I am today without Design For Change. The lessons I learned and the bonds of fellowship I forged there are part of the tool kit that I shall purposefully use for the rest of my days to change myself and adapt to the ups and downs of a life free from enslavement to...

When I was afraid and didn’t know what to do I reached out and was connected with Georgie. She walked me through every step and was even there to greet me when I arrived. I was at Design for Change inpatient and outpatient for a total of nearly 8 months. The counselors, transportation and drivers, groups, rooms, and safety they provide is unmatched by any other treatment center. I not only felt safe my entire time in treatment but i felt heard and understood. One of the things that I appreciated the most about this program was the owners are directly involved in every facet of their company. Joe and Micky have truly outdone themselves and are a couple of the most humble people I’ve ever met in my life. Design for Change creates unique treatment plans tailored to each client depending and their needs and goals. Tiffany in Outpatient is quite literally sunshine in human form.
