@TheBookBurrow I found the coziest indie bookstore tucked right into downtown Lebanon, Missouri: The Book Burrow. And listen… the second you walk in, you can feel the Salem, Massachusetts inspiration. It’s dark, witchy, moody — like someone bottled up Salem’s energy and dropped it right in the Ozarks. It was opened by two best friends, Courtney and Krystal, who met in hair school, bonded over a Harry Potter obsession, and decided to create their dream space together. They launched it in the front of their salon — Tribe Salon — and turned it into this little dark-academia hideaway. We’re talking black walls, a cozy fireplace vibe, shelves stacked with fantasy, dark romance, true crime, indie authors… all the stuff you actually want to read but can’t always find in big chain stores. But this isn’t just a bookstore.. They carry local goodies, custom journals, herbal tinctures, and my favorite — T-shirts with absolutely savage one-star book reviews. It’s perfect. Courtney’s the dreamer, Krystal’s the realist, and somehow they built this place that feels like home — a spot where you can linger, talk books, sip coffee, and lose an hour without even realizing it. So if you’re ever in Lebanon, Missouri, swing by The Book Burrow at 114 West Commercial Street and step straight into a little slice of Salem magic. Shoutout to @Petty Eddie for telling me I would love it here. You’re right, I do. 🖤 #booktok #book #lebanonmo #ozarks #reading

Before I even leave my review, I want to state I have never met the person who left the original review. (I will attach a picture of it. Although, their name will be crossed out for privacy reasons.) I also created an anonymous account due to the harassment and bullying the original reviewer received. Why this is wrong, and leads me to not wanting to support their business? They cannot accept criticism. When starting a business feedback is crucial, and the public’s opinions are important and valid for growth. Instead of responding with a “I’m so sorry to hear you had a poor experience with us. We do have a selection of those books, but we will make sure to display them so they’re easier to see. We will also look into getting more of those genres into our store. As for our decor, we wanted this cozy ‘witchy’ style for comfort. I’m sorry that it’s not your cup of tea. Thank you for the feedback!” kind of response, they decided to harass this poor individual. As well as some others supporting and saying “I hope she was harassed,” on Facebook and some other rude things. Please remember to treat people with respect and kindness! If you wouldn’t want it done to you — don’t do it to others! How have they harassed/bullied this reviewer? - Posted their review on Facebook with this caption “Ohhhhh some people and their reviews... we know not everyone will love us i: but honestly did she even look around... there's a list of titles she missed in the comments...” Which, I can totally understand if after the review they wanted to post their history, science fiction, travel, biography, etc… books! The problem with this is that others were commenting rude things, which led the reviewer to taking their’s down. Nobody should feel the need to take their review down due to their opinion. - Made t-shirts of things said in the original persons review. While I can see how this would be a good idea IF the review was just ‘witchy demonic store’ or something, but it wasn’t. - Posted a video on their Facebook page where one of the girls say “Which surprise our ‘witchcraft riddled store is getting some Amish romance and a few Christian romance. Take that [reviewers name]!” while the other one goes “it’s me [reviewers name]. Someone alert [reviewers name] or her husband. Who was greatly offended — that they’re are Amish romance in here now and Christmas romance. Idiots.” Etc…. On the other hand: I definitely understand where The Book Burrow was coming from. It sucks to get a bad review! Especially after working so hard to create your own business! but as I said before it is crucial for growth. My person experience — I went to the bookstore before, I absolutely loved the store. Thought it was cute, cozy, and had a good selection. Was so excited to finally have a book store! Although, I will not be supporting them as this behavior is so immature, disrespectful, and unprofessional for business owners. If this situation didn’t happen I’d be happy to leave a five-star review! For the owners reading this — I’m ready to receive rude comments. Please remember to be kind and take feedback/criticism! I also want to remind you guys that I chose to stay anonymous after the situation with the original individual. For anyone else reading this — Remember the golden rule: treat others how you want to be treated. If you wouldn’t want it happening to you, don’t do it to others. Overall, treat people with love and kindness. Especially those who claim to be Christians. Jesus wouldn’t appreciate the cruelness upon others. Matthew 7:12 states, "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets,” and Matthew 22:39 states, "And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."

Heard about this place from the ladies that own it through their tic tok. Absolutely loved it! Fantasy is my genre and they had a great selection. Even the magic of the store’s atmosphere pulled me in. I could have spent more time but was with my dad and brother and they do not know what a book is used for. I did go in with plans to buy anything but the flashy pages of one of the books caught my attention. One of the ladies ran me up and also commented on the pages so it isn’t just me 😝. It’s right next to the comic book store I frequent (yes, I’m a nerd), which is convenient. They will definitely see me again!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I visited for the first time today and absolutely loved it! I ended up leaving with a t-shirt and 13 books because I just couldn’t stop shopping—the vibe is perfect, cozy, and has the most wonderful witchy energy, which I loved.

The woman working was not only extremely knowledgeable with fantastic recommendations, but she was also so kind. We even talked about life with kiddos with ADHD, and it meant a lot to have an employee take the time for a genuine conversation instead of just rushing me through. It made the experience feel really personal.

I also appreciated how well everything was organized by genre—it’s so easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. The kids’ book selection is absolutely adorable, and I loved that they had something special for little readers, too. Browsing the herbs and tinctures was fun, and I know I’ll be back to pick some up. The little extras like stickers, bookmarks, and mini books just make the whole shop even more charming.

The only thing that could make it even better would be if they stocked some Grimoires and started a book club—but I was told they’re already working on ideas for a book club in the future, so I can’t wait! Truly a...

The Book Burrow is everything this area needed for readers who want to visit a bookstore to purchase their books and not have to rely on ordering from a big retailer. I have zero issues making the drive from Ft Leonard wood down to Lebanon regularly to get my books. If they don’t have what I’m looking for they have been phenomenal about ordering it for me. Yeah it doesn’t take 2 days like with Amazon, but I like the experience of going into the store and getting all the vibes from the decor; and half the time I end up finding a book to bring home that I wouldn’t have even known about had I not been in the store. I love that as a mainly dark romance reader that I can walk in somewhere and find the books I like to read out in the shelf. Is it everyone’s cup of tea no probably not, but that’s where you should be doing your homework first. If you like the Barnes and Noble vibe then go there, more at The Book...
